Everything stopped immediately. Then the Bodhisattva thought, why has the sensation of my body being cut off disappeared? Could it be that the knife was not pulled out? Thinking this, he looked at the knife. After looking, he felt extremely uncomfortable and began to tremble. Indra, knowing his thoughts, said: Like a weak patient, why are you trembling, O King? You are known throughout the earth for giving everything away, you should not regret it, you have not lied, have you? The Bodhisattva said: It is not because of that Brahmin that my body trembles and I regret it, but because this knife, although it has deeply cut into my lower half, has not severed it, and I worry that in this way I will not be able to perfect my giving, nor will I be able to fully satisfy the wishes of the beggar, it is not because my body trembles that I do not want the knife to cut fiercely. Hearing this, Indra was very surprised and could not say a word. The two men, deluded by Indra, used a sharp knife to cut off the lower part of the Bodhisattva's body, and as soon as it was cut off, they placed it on the ground and it began to move. The Bodhisattva, disregarding the pain of his body being cut, hurriedly said to the two men: Connect my body to the body of the Brahmin. The two men did as he said. As soon as they were connected, it was restored, without wounds, and the color became the same. The Bodhisattva, for the sake of joy, rose from his seat, walked around, sat down and stood up again. Seeing that the beggar's wish was fulfilled in this way, the Bodhisattva, with a heart of great joy, felt that his efforts had borne fruit, and that the wishes in his heart were completely fulfilled, thinking: I have given my body to this Brahmin and have completely saved him from the painful danger of life, by this root of virtue, may I attain unsurpassed Bodhi, and may I liberate this Brahmin from the suffering of samsara and place him in the blissful Nirvana. Having said this, tormented by intense pain, he made a wish in his heart to attain Bodhi, closed his eyes, and fell unconscious to the ground. Then Indra immediately nourished the Bodhisattva's body with medicines that increased strength and restored life. At that time, the earth of the great thousandfold world shook in six ways, making a great sound.

The sound was proclaimed very loudly. Terrible clouds and meteors and swaying directions, and the drums of the gods were beaten, so that the whole world became a dark darkness. The gods of the sky made noisy sounds, scattered flowers and clothes, and played the music of the gods. All the people of Jambudvipa (འཛམ་གླིང་) were momentarily bewildered there. Hundreds of thousands of creatures in that city, seeing the Bodhisattva's body split in half, cried out, "Alas, it is painful to have killed a god!" Some rolled around, some wailed, and so on. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra (བརྒྱ་བྱིན་), along with four sons of the gods, made the guise of the Brahmin invisible, and showed his own form, and said to the Bodhisattva: "Great King, I am Indra, the Lord of the Gods, not a Brahmin. Great King, well done! You are diligent in effort, not attached to your own body, compassionate to all beings, and happy to give, well done! Thus, even though afflicted by severe suffering, you do not turn away from giving your own body out of compassion, that is well done! Great King, I ask you, what do you intend to accomplish with this extremely difficult effort?" Kausika) I will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through this giving, and thereby liberate beings from samsara." Indra said: "Having given away your entire body, has your mind changed and become regretful?" The Bodhisattva said, "There is no regret." Indra said, "How can I know?" The Bodhisattva said, "Just as this body of mine has been cut in half, let it be restored to its original state." Then, Indra restored that half of the body to its original state, and the Bodhisattva, with a mind of loving-kindness towards all beings, spoke in verse: If one desires to attain enlightenment, having given up the body out of compassion, without stinginess or fear, now there is no regret. If there is not even a mind of regret, by this truth and good deed, Indra, now may my body, be restored to its former state, may all faculties be complete! As soon as he said this, the Bodhisattva's body returned to its former
