They become the lords who control the thousand pure worlds. Through merits, all desires and nine perfections constantly abide. Even inanimate objects are controlled by merits. Thus, when such pleasing words that truly show this life and the next are spoken, those many ordinary people become reliant on merit. Thereafter, King Sonam Tob, in order to make those sentient beings cherish merit, looked to the sky, generated the mind, and spoke these words: "If only rain of various jewels and garments would fall everywhere, inside and outside this palace and its entourage, wouldn't that be wonderful?" As soon as he spoke, various celestial garments suitable for great beings and a rain of delightful celestial flowers fell, followed by a rain of various celestial jewels, covering everything and remaining radiant. Having seen that, those many people cherished merit and, marveling, specially expressed it. Those words were heard by the kings of the world, and in order to pay homage, they all gathered and came with the four divisions of the army, saying, "You are the one with great power of merit; you should be the king, and we will serve you." The king also filled them with whatever jewels they desired, befitting great beings, and after placing the entourage and others on the path of the ten virtues, he sent them back to their own countries. Thereafter, that news was gradually heard by King Sel Tob, who first sent a messenger and then quickly came with a large army to the presence of Sonam Tob, and fainting with a heart full of compassion, he descended from the back of the elephant with tears filling his eyes, embraced his son's neck, and after examining him for a long time, said: "Son, young man, understand what I am saying now. I am old and frail and cannot bear the burden of kingship. You should enjoy the burden of kingship." Having said this, he took off the silk hat, diadem, arm ornaments, and other finery from his head and gave them to him. Thereafter, gradually, King Sonam Tob became the master of the power of kingship in all of Jambudvipa. He filled all the many people living in Jambudvipa with gold and silver as they desired, and then virtue.

were placed in ten places. At that time, in this Jambudvipa, there was no one who was poor or sick. All the people of Jambudvipa were happy, healthy, and strong, with flourishing faculties, rich, wealthy, and enjoying great prosperity, possessing abundant gold, silver, and treasures, with flourishing wealth, good harvests, no strife, no thieves or famine, no stones or gravel, and flourishing trees of flowers and fruits, raining in due season, endowed with food, cattle, and buffaloes. All were flourishing in happiness, relying on merit, constantly giving alms, abiding in fasting, and dwelling in morality. At that time, in Jambudvipa, any who died as humans were reborn among the gods after leaving their bodies, mostly reborn among the gods of the Four Great Kings. King Sonam Tob also placed immeasurable beings in the benefit of this life and the next, and after death, he was reborn in the Tushita heaven together with tens of thousands of attendants. Thus, our teacher at that time became known as King Sonam Tob, and the father and mother of that time were the present-day Shuddhodana and Mayadevi, the youth with form was the monk Ananda, son of Su, the diligent one was the monk Dhrozhin Kye, twenty kotis, the craftsman was the monk Unobstructed, the wise one was the monk Shariputra, and the lord of the gods, Indra, at that time was the son of Maudgalyayana. The deceased king into whose kingdom Sonam Tob entered was the evil demon, the former poor man into whose house Sonam Tob entered was the monk Rahula, and the man without hands and feet, who was placed as before by Sonam Tob, the man who offered medicine and Dharma to the king, was this Kaundinya. Therefore, in all ways, merit is beneficial, so no other is seen to be comparable to merit, the Blessed One said. There, the monks also asked, what deeds did King Sonam Tob do to become a king in such a way, etc., all thoughts were fulfilled.
