To the self-enlightened Buddhas as numerous as dust particles, offering places adorned with mansions made of Jambu River gold, jewels, electric lamps, and various flowers and incense. By giving divine food with a hundred flavors and divine garments as many as the sands of the Ganges River for eons, who else would be called Buddha? Who would hear the sound of being called the protector of the world and the all-knowing one? Who would see a painted image? If one sees a statue, this will generate even more immeasurable merit than that. What need is there to mention joining the ten fingers in reverence and offering incense, flowers, and lamps? Even just uttering a single praise of their virtues will generate even more merit than that. It will accomplish great enjoyment and eventually lead to omniscience. Just as a small drop of water that enters the ocean will not be exhausted until the fire at the end of the eon arises, similarly, even the smallest root of virtue generated towards the Buddha will not be completely exhausted or come to an end in the intermediate state until the fire of the wisdom of omniscience arises. And just as a small moon can overwhelm the multitude of stars and remain clear, similarly, even a small root of virtue generated towards the Buddha, because of its height, vastness, and greatness, can overwhelm all other roots of virtue and remain clear. Thus, the Buddha possesses inconceivable qualities. This is a concise explanation of the meaning that was spoken; for details, one should consult that sutra itself. In the Avatamsaka Sutra, it is said: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, the merit that arises from seeing and hearing the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas, and associating with them, is meaningful for the great Bodhisattva with the mind of manifesting inexhaustibility, is without obstacles, is accomplished most ultimately, is not deceptive, fulfills all aspirations, the stream of practice for all conditioned phenomena is inexhaustible, one will attain the wisdom of the unconditioned, it will become the ultimate of the endless future, and the body possessing all the supreme aspects of self-origination."

It should be understood that it will be obtained. It is said that, for example, if someone eats the essence of a vajra, it will not be digested in the middle, so it will not be wasted; and like the example of a tiny flame falling into a root, etc., through these examples it is also explained that all the roots of virtue accumulated for the Buddha will not be wasted in samsara, but will become the ultimate unconditioned wisdom of the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Dharma of the roots of virtue accumulated for the Tathagata is unmixed. Also, in that sutra it says: 'O son of the Victorious One, if you want to believe and understand, then, even if some sentient beings see or hear the Tathagata, but because of the complete covering of karmic obscurations, even if they develop distrust towards the Tathagata, the roots of virtue that they have seen will be meaningful until complete nirvana.' I say thus. Also, even after the Buddha has passed into nirvana for countless kalpas, just hearing the name of the Buddha is like the Buddha actually being there, offering and accumulating inexhaustible roots of virtue. Similarly, even if the Buddha dwells in limitless places, just remembering him will cause him to appear here. It is also said that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, dwell in the realm of Dharma in the past and future, possessing equal, inexhaustible merit, and possessing inexhaustible merit. The great nature of the Buddha, the Bhagavat, is in all aspects irreproachable and extremely pure. Etc. In the 'Stacked Pavilion Sutra' it says: 'Ananda, if someone joins their palms and prostrates to the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, then I have completely taken those sentient beings into my care and have completely led them to nirvana. I have little concern for those sentient beings.' Why is that? Ananda, because the realm of Dharma of the Tathagata is extremely abiding. Because it is extremely abiding, even joining the palms will not be wasted, let alone acts of generosity and so on?' It also says: 'Ananda, the three roots of virtue accumulated for the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, these three in samsara
