As previously stated, it was prophesied that he would tame sentient beings for a long time. At that time, in a place called "Residence Village," there was a Brahmin who said this: "Noble being, when you practice the conduct of enlightenment in those countless eons, I will also always be reverently serving you, and by providing loving resources and assistance, I will be reverently serving you. When you become the last existence, I will become your father, and I will become the supreme benefactor for your attainment of enlightenment. May you prophesy me to unsurpassed enlightenment." Furthermore, at that time, there was a sea goddess named "Extremely Gentle," who also, as before, went through countless eons, and when you become the last existence, I will become the mother who gives birth to you, and may you prophesy me to unsurpassed enlightenment. Similarly, the star goddess Water God Practice also vowed to become the nursing mother in the last existence, thereby receiving the prophecy of unsurpassed enlightenment. Indra Circular and Indra Beyond Mind, these two prayed to become the supreme ones with wisdom and miraculous powers. Indra Practice Use View Adornment Assembly vowed to become a son until the last existence. The mountain peak goddess Depa Kingśuka vowed to become your consort in those lifetimes, and may you prophesy me to unsurpassed enlightenment. The lord of the Asuras, Beautiful Practice, vowed, "When you practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva for such a long eon, I will become the servant who helps you, the noble being, with loving resources, performing reverent service, and when you become the last existence, I will also perform reverent service, and after you attain enlightenment, I will also become the one who requests you to turn the wheel of Dharma, and I will be the first to make the Dharma you teach bear fruit, and also drink the essence of the Dharma, realize immortality, and thereby attain the state of an Arhat who has abandoned all defilements. And so on, gods and nagas.

And also gods and non-gods as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, also made aspirations to follow the conduct of the one endowed with great compassion, and briefly arranged the methods of taming. Then, there was one called "The Living One, Non-Returning Fear," who said: 'Great Brahmin, may I also become your friend with many resources! May I, in countless eons, become a close relative who enjoys the fruits with you and lives closely. In order to constantly beg for things, I will approach your presence, begging for bedding, cushions, clothes, elephants, etc., as well as villages, houses, towns, and sons, daughters, flesh and blood, etc., as well as limbs, senses, and heads. May I thus become a friend in your generosity pāramitā! Likewise, may I also become a friend in the other five pāramitās! Thus, when you practice the conduct of enlightenment, may I become a friend in the six pāramitās, and when you attain enlightenment, may I also attain the state of a Śrāvaka, holding eighty thousand aggregates of Dharma! Afterwards, may I teach the Dharma! May you prophesy that I will attain unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment!' When the Brahmin, the one with great compassion, heard these words, he prostrated to the feet of the Thus-Gone One with five limbs, and called to the Living One, Non-Returning Fear, saying: 'Noble man, it is excellent that you will become a friend in my unsurpassed conduct! In all lifetimes, whenever you come to me to beg for things, I will also give with a very joyful mind, and may you also not be associated with the aspect of non-merit!' Then, the great Bodhisattva, the one with great compassion, also requested the Thus-Gone One, saying: 'Bhagavan, when I practice the conduct of enlightenment in those countless eons, if beggars come before me to beg for food, and beg with gentle or harsh words, or with contemptuous words, or with clear words, if I generate even a single moment of anger or disbelief towards that beggar, or if I give desiring the ripening of generosity, then...'

May the Buddhas residing in the countless and immeasurable realms of the ten directions be deceived by me. May I also not attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. If I give alms to a beggar with distrust, or if that alms is also wasted by the receiver who distrusts the giving. If even a portion the size of a hair tip obstructs virtuous dharmas, may I have deceived the Buddhas. If even a portion the size of a hair tip obstructs the virtuous dharmas of the receiver, may I go to the Avici hell. Just as with food, so too should it be understood by applying the same to begging for clothes and head coverings. Just as with giving, so too should it be spoken of in terms of completely giving from discipline to wisdom. The Tathagata Jewel Essence praised and gave the word "Excellent," and the retinue likewise said "Excellent," and sat with palms joined. Just as the aspiration of the Bodhisattva who receives alms, the unchanging and terrifying one, so too did eighty-four thousand beings make aspirations. Having heard that, the one possessed of great compassion was exceedingly pleased and said this: Alala! In times of famine and decline of the Dharma, in times agitated by great afflictions and strife, in the degenerate age of five, I will become a leader for the unprotected in the world, a light and a lamp, and a guide for helpless children and the blind. Thus, having generated the first mind, in other lifetimes, taking my head, taking from eyes and ears etc. up to food, and being a companion in practicing unsurpassed enlightenment, it is wonderful to find such a one! Venerable Bhagavan, in those immeasurable and countless eons of lifetimes, until the end of enlightenment, beggars have long taken food and drink before me, and if beings have received even a portion the size of a hair tip of alms from my hand, after I manifest enlightenment, if I do not completely liberate them from samsara.
