Thus it arises. These initial bodhicittas, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: The coarse, arising from names, is the conventional bodhicitta; the subtle, attained by the nature of reality, is the ultimate bodhicitta. Among these, the cause of the first arising is: the power of friends, the power of lineage, the fundamental power, the power of hearing, and the power of familiarizing with virtue. The unstable and stable arising is the bodhicitta taught by others. As it is said, generating bodhicitta in the presence of the Tathagata Invincible Banner is born from the power of friends. That is, the bodhisattva Manjushri, who became the youth Dharma Speaker named King of Wisdom, skillfully persuaded and caused him to generate bodhicitta in the presence of that Tathagata. Thus, he generated bodhicitta and accumulated merit. Also, having become a boy, seeing the Tathagata All-Subduing, he offered a pearl necklace and prayed to become such a Buddha. Compassion and loving-kindness spontaneously arose for the Dharma friend who was leading the chariot of hell, which was due to the power of the lineage. Among the three boys, the one who aspired to the vast and prayed to become a Buddha was the Bhagavan (Lord) himself, and those who prayed to become the supreme pair were Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. The arising of compassion for a friend is also, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: Its root is said to be compassion, always thinking of benefiting sentient beings. As it is said, the root of bodhicitta lies in the arising of compassion and loving-kindness for sentient beings. This is also because compassion arises due to the awakening of the Mahayana lineage. King Light prayed for unsurpassed bodhi, which was based on the power of hearing. The tamer said, "I have tamed the body of the elephant, but I cannot tame the afflictions of the mind. The one who tames the mind is the Buddha Bhagavan." Hearing the praise of the Buddha, the king then made offerings and prayed to become a Buddha. The potter Wide Light offered alms to the Tathagata Shakyamuni.

After that, what kind of Buddha did they aspire to become? It is because of the power of virtuous roots and the power of accumulating virtuous roots in the past, encountering the Buddha's descent into the world, accumulating merit, and making aspirations. The Brahmin Ocean Dust generated five hundred aspirations and aroused Bodhicitta because, in that life and previous lives, he was very familiar with the virtues gathered by the Dharma of the Great Vehicle. With great compassion surpassing other Bodhisattvas, he completely embraced the impure and degenerate world. This was the initial arising of Bodhicitta. Generally speaking, it is not necessary for all five causes to be complete in order to generate Bodhicitta. Even if it arises from any one cause, it will become a person with the characteristics of Bodhicitta. However, even if Bodhicitta is initially generated through any of the five causes, in the stage of adhimukticarya, in other lifetimes, it will still be easy to awaken Bodhicitta through any one cause. Moreover, once one gains one's own strength, it becomes more stable, and until one attains the Bodhisattva grounds, that Bodhicitta will manifest without degeneration in all lifetimes. Generally speaking, although those who possess the lineage of the Great Vehicle have the power of cause, they also depend on conditions. Therefore, the generation of Bodhicitta in this way is said to be the initial Bodhicitta. The order of these can be arranged like the son of a merchant, a boy, Mighty Holder, Light Victorious, the potter Wide Light, and the Brahmin Ocean Dust, and there is no contradiction. However, Mighty Holder only generated loving-kindness, and the middle of the three boys only generated joyful faith upon seeing the Buddha, offering a pearl necklace and aspiring to become such a Buddha. King Light Victorious and the potter Wide Light knew the Buddha's qualities better than the previous two, and with strong desire and faith, aspired to become Buddhas. The son of the merchant is also similar to this. Although some believe that these are the various stages of generating Bodhicitta, such as aspiration and engagement, it is difficult to determine the order of these because of how the scriptures themselves explain it. In any case, the way of initially generating Bodhicitta is also getting better and more stable.

Having gone to When the Brahmin Ocean Dust generated the mind of enlightenment, with strong faith believing in the Great Vehicle, he placed many other beings in the Great Vehicle, and it is evident that he himself, with great compassion, deliberately took hold of the impure realm, which was the initial generation of the mind. Therefore, it is fine if the seed of generating the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment is first planted by Manjushri, awakening the lineage of the Great Vehicle, and then these later ones appear in sequence. Or, it is not contradictory if the boy made a prayer to become a Buddha, or if Gyad Pakshita initially generated loving-kindness, and then the merchant's son and others appeared in sequence, but if there is no clear statement from the scriptures, it is difficult to thoroughly investigate with reasoning. Therefore, no matter how the previous sequences are arranged, it seems that there is no contradiction in the meaning of initially speaking about generating the mind, from the perspective of each situation. In general, even if one makes a single prayer aiming to attain Buddhahood, its result will definitely ripen into the great unsurpassed enlightenment, and it will not be in vain. For example, even generating the mind of enlightenment due to the manipulation of the evil demon was prophesied to become a Buddha. However, until one attains the noble stage, and especially in the stage of the first practitioner, even if the seed of generating the mind of enlightenment is not lost, if one encounters bad conditions, the continuity of the mind of enlightenment will not continuously arise in all lifetimes, and it is even possible to forget it in some lifetimes. Therefore, in general, there is a difference between unstable and stable occurrences. Specifically, if it arises only from the strength of a companion among the five causes, such as lineage without its own strength, it is unstable; and if it arises from the other four causes, it is also called stable. Furthermore, The mind generation in the grounds, Adoration and pure higher intention, Maturation is said elsewhere, Likewise, the removal of obscurations. That is, in the ground of aspirational conduct, it is the mind generation arising from aspirational conduct; in the impure seven grounds, because the mind of equality between self and others arises, it is the mind generation of pure higher intention; in the pure three grounds, it is the mind generation of maturation that arises effortlessly and spontaneously; in the state of Buddhahood, it is the ultimate mind generation that has abandoned all obscurations. Therefore, the grounds and paths are traversed, and there is a difference that it becomes better and better from above.
