Once upon a time, when the moon, in its stillness, had seen the sun and moon off and returned, no food, drink, or bathing had been prepared. So he said, "Bring water and food," but she said, "It hasn't been prepared." So he became angry and said, "When my brother enters here, I let you be. I cannot but strike you!" As he was about to strike her, the wife said, "Prince, wait a moment and listen to the wisdom of the household." He said, "Speak!" The wife spoke the verse as before, and he said, "What does that mean?" Then the wife said to him, "If you strike me, I will tell you the meaning." He was like a deer struck by an arrow. He said, "Do not strike me, let me go, and do not speak the meaning either!" The Brahmin Chandra Kirti of that time was the Bhagavan, and Chol Zangpa was this aspiration. He said, "Even then, I spoke of nearness and self, and even now, I speak of nearness and self." Furthermore, in a previous life, the Bhagavan himself, having been born into a royal family, was a Bodhisattva named Kesapa or Avaraṇa, skilled in various treatises and possessing qualities such as eloquent speech. He thought, "In what kind of pure livelihood should I abide, so that I may accomplish benefit and happiness for the world?" He considered that kingship is a place of many faults such as arrogance, and commerce is mixed with sin because it is associated with false words. Agriculture is also associated with the suffering of beating oxen and so on. Therefore, he thought that being a doctor is a pure livelihood and that he could accomplish benefit for others. So, he studied medicine and, with very sweet speech and interest in the benefit of others, he healed various diseases of sentient beings. Once, when the husband of a woman had died of illness, that woman wept and called out to her husband, lamenting, "Where have you gone?" She was possessed by a spirit and became insane. She came back to her own house and said, "My husband is alive!" Without weeping, she embraced his corpse and said, "Why don't you speak to me today? If you want another woman, go, and I will not hinder you." And she said, "Open your eyes!" Opening his eyes with her fingers and so on, she spoke various nonsense and then went home.

In the night when people were asleep, she carried her husband's corpse on her shoulder and wandered around the mountains and cemeteries, thinking of the corpse as her real husband, speaking all kinds of words to it and kissing it. Gradually, the corpse rotted and became just a pile of bones, but she still did not abandon it, but treated it with affection. When the sun was hot, she would say, "My family is tired," and then bathe the bones, weave garlands of flowers, etc., just as she would treat a living person, kissing it, speaking sweet words to it, talking to it with respectful and affectionate words, and wandering around. At night, she would perfume the bed with flowers and the scent of agarwood, and then say, "Noble son, please come here, please sit on this bed," and then place the bones on the bed and sleep embracing it. When the Bodhisattva and the people, including the students, saw her behavior, they said, "Alas, this false delusion has made her so ignorant, I must also use a method to cure her." The students said, "What is there that wise people cannot do?" They were very surprised. After that, the Bodhisattva, with a compassionate heart, went at night to the terrifying cemetery where the woman was. There, he saw terrifying flesh-eating female ghosts spread all over the place, so he tied up the students' hair with a protective mantra. He thought: The body of a woman that people are attached to and cherish is these foul-smelling corpses that are clearly visible in the cemetery. To embrace and be attached to such a thing is truly deluded. He was overwhelmed by compassion. After that, he asked the students, and at the break of dawn, he said, "You go to the city to heal the sick. I will use a method to make this woman steadfast." After saying that, he sent the students away. The Bodhisattva was searching for the woman who possessed her husband's corpse. At this time, the young woman got up, took her husband's corpse, and went to the riverbank. The Bodhisattva saw the bed she had left behind, knew where she had gone, and then saw that she was going to the river. So, the Bodhisattva carried a woman's skeleton on his shoulder and followed her. The woman placed the skeleton on a tree by the river.

After tying (him) to a tree, (she said), "Wait a moment, noble son. I will fetch water to wash your face, and adorn your lovely eyes." Having said this, she went towards the water. When she saw her own reflection in the water, she thought, "This beautiful woman will steal my husband." So she spoke various harsh words to the reflection. Finally, she angrily threw stones at the reflection, but it did not disappear. She said to her own reflection, "If you don't leave, I will take the noble son and leave, so that you will never see him again." Having said this to her reflection, she put the skeleton on her shoulder and left. She saw Kashyapa and thought, "I should ask this man why he is holding a woman and running away from others." So she said to Kashyapa, "Why are you running away, suspecting that I am going with my husband? I am not a flesh-eating woman, so put aside your doubts and speak." The Bodhisattva said, "Sister, I am not afraid of you. But I am taking this wife who does not want other men to a place where there are no people. This woman of mine is so beautiful that even the gods are delighted, and I am afraid that she will be stolen by your husband, so I am running away. My beloved does not love other men, and when she saw your husband, she closed her eyes in shame. I will take her and live in a mountain cave for a long time." That woman said, "Noble one, there is no need for such suspicion. Just as your wife is virtuous and does not want other men, my beloved is also virtuous. Those who have the same conduct are friends, so it is good." The Bodhisattva said, "If you are a woman who abides by the conduct of her husband, then let us live together by this river." Having said this, Kashyapa put the skeleton by a tree on the riverbank and began to decorate it, and that woman also began to decorate her husband's skeleton, and when they both fell asleep, the Bodhisattva tied the skeleton's neck with a rope, slowly took it away and threw it into the river, making sounds like 'Ha! Ha!' and sounds of sorrow.

After the narrator woke up the woman, (the woman) said, "Your master has stolen my lover, alas, how pitiful!" The two of them saw that both skeletons had been washed away by the water, and said, "Alas, haha!" Then they ran back and forth along the riverbank. At this time, the woman said with tears in her eyes, "I have always adorned you, respected you, and constantly loved you, but today you have stolen someone else's family, like a fruitless poison, you have not thought of me!" Like this, one moment angry, one moment full of sorrow, one moment wailing. The Bodhisattva said to her, "Like this, crying because of shamelessness, crying for the loss of happiness is meaningless. Didn't you say that your husband doesn't want other women? That evil husband of yours stole my very lovely beauty, making me empty and losing my support. Let her come back quickly!" She wailed. The woman strangled her neck with her clothes, (saying) "That venerable one cannot come back, I have a daughter of my husband, with a lovely appearance, I can give her to you." The Bodhisattva said, "I don't need other goddesses besides my wife who has a peerless face. If she doesn't come back, I will smash your head into powder with this big stone!" He angrily picked up a big stone, preparing to hit the woman, the woman was so scared that she hugged his feet, (saying) "I am a poor and helpless woman, please forgive my mistakes, do not kill me." The Bodhisattva said to her, "If you do not disobey my words, I will not hit you with a stone, and you will also become happy." She promised, "Just do it like that." The Bodhisattva said, "Throw away the bones of your dead husband that you carry on your shoulder, the bones that are completely infatuated with your husband! All beings will die, mountains and oceans, wish-fulfilling trees, gods and non-gods, the wealth of humans are also impermanent. Like this, all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, so generate renunciation towards the world. Relatives
