Those with the obscuration of bad destinies do not know the path to attain Brahma. Anger and lies, resentment and various harms, stinginess and manifest pride, intolerance and attachment, hatred, and likewise ignorance, jealousy, miserliness, and irritation—these are the foul odors among Brahmin people. Like water flowing everywhere in the world, if obscured by these, one has the obscuration of bad destinies and does not know the path to attain Brahma. Then, that great Brahmin thought, "As I understand what Brahma has said, it is not easy for householders living at home to practice pure, unmixed, complete, perfectly pure, and thoroughly purified brahmacharya for as long as they live. I should shave my hair and beard, wear saffron robes, and with only true faith, renounce my home and go forth." Knowing his thoughts, he said, "For the sake of being born in Brahma, make steadfast effort in this. This Dharma is pure and enduring." Having said this, he disappeared. After those four summer months had passed, King Dust went to the Brahmin, prostrated at his feet, and sat to one side. The Brahmin said, "I am not pleased, please rule the kingdom yourself." The king said, "Whatever you are not satisfied with, I will fulfill. If there is harm to you, I will kill, please do not abandon me." The Brahmin said, "King, I am not dissatisfied, nor have I been harmed, but having heard the words of non-humans, I am no longer happy with the household life." Thus, they conversed with each other in verses, expressing the desire to renounce with the words of Brahma. The king also said, "Wherever you go, I will go there too. You are my teacher, and I will become your shravaka disciple." He also said, "King, please abandon attachment to worldly desires and practice brahmacharya for the sake of being born in Brahma." Then, that great Brahmin asked the six royal families, "If I renounce, what will you do?" They said, "Khenpo, please stay for seven years, and we will leave our sons and others on the throne and then follow you into renunciation." The Brahmin said, "Seven years is too long, various desires

is to become attached. Enjoying pleasures is to become intoxicated. Cutting off life is difficult to know, even if seven years pass, it is impossible to determine whether to ordain or not, so for the time being, I will ordain. They deliberated from six years to one year, and from seven months to seven days. The Brahmin said: Seven days is not long, but enjoying sensual pleasures is intoxicating, and cutting off life is difficult to know, even if seven days pass, it is impossible to determine whether to ordain or not, so for the time being, I will ordain. Then, the Brahmin spoke to seven Sala trees and so on, as well as five hundred Brahmin boys, and all the trainers and so on. All of them said: After the abbot ordains, we will also ordain. Then, the great Brahmin Krsnajata shaved his hair and beard, put on robes, and ordained. There, Prince Dust and hundreds of thousands of retinues, as well as six royal families and seven great Brahmins, and so on, horse and elephant trainers, and all the people up to the bathers also ordained after him. After the great Brahmin Krsnajata ordained, he abandoned the five obscurations of affliction: making the mind weak, making wisdom weak, conforming to the harmful side, making it impossible to escape sorrow. Then, cultivating a mind of loving-kindness, without rivals, without harm, vast and immense, immeasurable, very focused, spreading and perfecting in one direction, he abided there. Similarly, the second, the third, the fourth, above and below, and directly, in all ways, he filled this entire world with a mind of loving-kindness, and abided there. Similarly, he filled it with compassion, joy, and equanimity, and abided there. At that time, his name became the teacher Krsnajata. Then, the teacher Krsnajata, together with hundreds of thousands of impure retinues, traveled from city to city, and everyone watched and prostrated. In this way, at that time, seven guides appeared, namely those who lived by the sword and Brahmasdatta, and so on, seven people.
