When I went to that garden, due to the Buddha's blessing, I felt cool and a rain of fragrant water fell. Having understood the thoughts of that householder, He touched him with the cool light of nectar, making him free from the fatigue of the journey. Seeing the Tathagata walking in the sky at the height of about one Tala tree, the householder who desired solitude requested: As I have heard, so I have seen; this is even better than what I heard. In this world, there is no one like you with your wisdom and qualities. The Buddha said: Householder, it is good that you have spoken of becoming solitary. Just as you have diligently cultivated roots of virtue here for a long time. In this world, there is no one like me; how could there be anyone more excellent than me? Householder, ask whatever you wish to ask in your heart. Whatever your definite wish is, I will make your mind content. Whatever you want to ask me, ask it today without any doubt. That householder requested: How does one arise from meditation? I delight in meditation, the qualities of meditation. How can I incline my mind to this? Please tell me these things. By what roots of virtue can knowledge be realized? What are the causes of association and knowledge? Please tell me these things. Then, the Tathagata Amitabha completely satisfied him with one verse: The meditation that is without characteristics, is also very certain for arising. By what knowledge can one separately attain and fully understand that meditation? Having said this, that householder was firmly established in the Dharma of no birth, abiding without hesitation or doubt, and having illuminated that assembly, he requested: How can one fully understand the words spoken by the Bhagavan? The Buddha said: Countless beings like the sands of the Ganges, having heard my well-spoken words, truly understand and are established in the unborn. Having said this, he made the request for the benefit of all beings. Therefore, a great Bodhisattva who wishes to benefit all beings should be skilled in meditation, should be skilled in arising from meditation, and those roots of virtue—knowledge of arising, knowledge of all arising, and whatever roots of virtue can be truly accumulated—those roots of virtue should be firmly established, should be firmly grasped. Thus He spoke. And also, in the past

In the land of Kashi, when the Blessed One was incarnated as a minister of the king, named Khra-can (Speckled Face), he was proficient in all teachings, and with outstanding qualities such as steadfastness and gentleness, he taught the assembly of beings what to adopt and abandon, like a teacher. However, in order to eliminate the faults that displeased the king of Kashi, he spoke to the king in a secluded place: 'O deity, what faults cannot be corrected in other kings, such as the king of Lusa-phags (Eminent Body)? The faults of drinking alcohol, such as becoming angry, weeping, speaking nonsense, and becoming the source of various diseases; the faults of indulging in desires, such as being disturbed by the fear of victory or defeat of the kingdom, and the decline of affairs; and the faults of wasting life, such as becoming ill from suppressing sleep and urination; the faults of hunting, such as snakes, flies, heat, cold, hunger, thirst, fatigue, falling from a horse on the road, encountering the fear of enemies, and base actions with extremely unpleasant results; the excessive attachment to women, which diminishes the power of self-control, is enveloped by the great darkness of faults, and burns oneself with the fire of desire, is the suffering of humans; and the faults of harsh words, like those that generate cruelty like a hungry ghost, exhaust the glory of the protectors of the land. Therefore, if one can restrain the senses from their objects and abide in the proper conduct, then all glory will increase.' The king said, 'The senses are robbed by objects, so it is impossible to do as you say, but for the sake of preserving your face, the beneficial advice of teachers like you should not be transgressed.' The Bodhisattva went to his own house and again entered the company of the consorts. There, at night, the king was reckless with song, dance, and wine, and some ministers, jealous of the great glory of the minister Khra-can, said to the king, 'It is heard that this Khra-can is conspiring with the king of Lusa-phags to destroy the kingdom of the gods, so please be careful, O deity.' The king, whose nature was foolish, became displeased with the Bodhisattva without investigation. The Bodhisattva also considered those words to be true.
