No. King, you have not become a vessel for the Dharma, being full of deceit, I shall leave from here. Then the king brought a large hunting dog, which, being angry, showed its bared teeth. The Bodhisattva said: Great king, this dog used to be familiar with me, but now it bares its teeth and growls in anger, even these animals show your intention, I have not heard disrespectful words from you. This too is your retinue that follows you. Having said this, the king felt ashamed and lowered his head, thinking: This one is clever and will know, I shall deceive him. It is true that I spoke to you in the assembly, but because of need, I forgot. Please forgive me and do not depart! The Bodhisattva said: Now is the time to leave. If I myself do not leave at a time of little respect, I may be expelled later. I am not leaving unhappily, nor will I abandon the loving-kindness of having benefited in the future. To be ungrateful for what has been done, and to have unstable friendship, is the worst among people. Therefore, in order to protect the end of this friendship, I shall depart for a while. The king said: If I cannot prevent you from leaving, please come here to see me again, and it is not right to hold a grudge because of lineage. The Bodhisattva said: Great king, this world is full of obstacles, so I cannot promise for sure that I will come, but if I have the opportunity to come, I will see your face. Having said this, he showed respect and then left. Knowing that relying on householders would make him unhappy, he diligently meditated in a monastic place, and before long, he attained the four dhyanas and the five superknowledges. Because of compassion for the king, he observed the king's situation. Those ministers could not bear to investigate the cause, and said that there was no cause. What is the cause of the lotus stem having leaves, flowers, etc., and colors, shapes, tactile sensations, etc., and the bird's wings having various patterns? They thought that all things arose naturally. And some thought that it was made by Ishvara, and some relied only on pursuing the happiness of this life.

Because the ministers each had different views and led the king astray. The king was easily influenced by others and was in danger of falling into wrong views. Therefore, out of compassion for him, the Bodhisattva devised a way to stop him. He transformed into a large monkey at his ascetic practice place and magically peeled off the monkey's skin. He disguised himself, put on the monkey skin, and went to the gate of the king's palace. At the gate of the palace, a group of people holding weapons were stationed, and inside were family members, Brahmins, and ministers in order, while the king was sitting on the lion throne inside. The king greeted him, treated him with courtesy, and invited him to sit down with sweet words. The king asked, "Venerable one, who offered this monkey skin?" The Bodhisattva replied, "I found this myself, no one offered it. Because sitting on kusha grass spread on the ground makes it impossible to perform religious rituals, I saw this big monkey in that forest, and I thought that if I took its skin to make religious items, I could complete religious practice whether sitting or lying down, so I killed the monkey and took its skin." The king listened, behaved meekly and obediently, and remained silent, bowing his head in shame. Those ministers, who were already dissatisfied with the Bodhisattva, now seized the opportunity, smiled, and said to the king, "Emaho! Look at your love for religion! Living in the ascetic forest, he actually killed such a big monkey alone, it's amazing! May your ascetic practice be successful!" The Bodhisattva did not get angry and said, "You do not look at your own good views, but come to belittle me, this is not right. If you harm others with words that contradict your own views, you will be considered unwise." Then, he rebuked those ministers who advocated the theory of causelessness, saying, "All things arise naturally, if there is no cause, why do you blame me? The monkey died naturally, how can I be guilty? If I am guilty, then there is a cause. Therefore, you should abandon this theory of causelessness, you should not say that."
