If that's the case, then he certainly doesn't have the power of asceticism. If he were truly detached from desire, he should not even look at her. Thinking this, the Bodhisattva was addressed: 'Hey, renunciant, in this world there are many deceitful and oppressive people. In this secluded forest, if your wife is violated by others, what will you do? If you generate anger, then it goes against the Dharma, so why not leave her in the village?' The Bodhisattva said: 'King, you have said much. If that really happens, listen to what I will do. If someone, out of arrogance and without thinking, comes here to harm me, like thick dust being pressed down by rain, I will not let him go while I am alive.' After saying this, the king thought, 'This person is very attached to his wife, he certainly doesn't have the power of asceticism,' and he despised him. He began to take the woman to the king's palace. The woman cried loudly, lamented towards her husband, and was placed on a chariot and taken away. Although the Bodhisattva saw this, he subdued his anger with the power of discernment, and without disturbing his mind, he sewed the tattered seams of his duster. Then the king said to him: 'You said before that you would not let him go while you were alive, but now you are being robbed and are helplessly dejected, what is this? Show your power! If not, then your boastful promise is meaningless.' The Bodhisattva said: 'King, I have not made my vow meaningless, please understand. Whoever harms me, even if wavering, I will not let go. I have also openly pacified it. Therefore, I remain true to my vow.' Then the king realized that the Bodhisattva had the qualities of asceticism, and thought: 'It seems I did not understand what he said before.' So he said to the Bodhisattva: 'You did not let go of the wavering one, who is the one who harms you? Like rain falling and covering dust, what have you completely pacified?' The Bodhisattva said: 'When it arises, virtue is not manifest, when it does not arise, virtue is manifest. That anger that harms me, I have not let it spread.' Thus it is.

Having spoken of the faults of anger, the king's heart was greatly saddened, and he confessed his sins. He also asked forgiveness from the ordained woman, released her, and vowed to be a servant of the Bodhisattva. Thus, if anger and resentment are subdued, enemies will be subdued. If anger increases, enemies will increase. It should be known that those who are without the pain of anger and attachment will attain abiding in a mind of stainless meditation. Furthermore, in the past, the Bhagavan himself was born as one called Kuntuzuk Byangchub. When he was a householder, he became skilled in various arts and sciences praised by the world. Later, when he became ordained, he studied the scriptures with diligence to benefit others, and attained the rank of a scholar. Wherever he went, he was revered by scholars, kings, Brahmins, householders, heretics, and all the ordained. That great being also wandered everywhere, begging for alms to benefit others. Once, he went to the vicinity of a king's territory. The king had heard of the Bodhisattva's virtues from afar, so he made a place for him in one of his gardens and treated him with respect. The Bodhisattva also taught them the Dharma. Those who were jealous of his virtues and fame devised a plan to make the king dislike the Bodhisattva. They said, "This Kuntuzuk Byangchub is a cunning man who maintains a warm demeanor with a deceptive manner. He is surely aiming to replace the king under the sun. He is a shameless religious person who pretends to be gentle and uses tricks to seduce and deceive." The king, though not entirely convinced, showed less affection and respect towards him. Seeing that the king was displeased and knowing his mind, the Bodhisattva took his mendicant's belongings, the three staffs, bowl, etc., and prepared to leave. The king, feigning humility, said, "What offense have I committed that you are preparing to leave?" The Bodhisattva said, "I fear meaningless death and being angered by lack of respect."
