Lapos asked as before, but he said nothing. He then entrusted him to the executioners, telling them to dig a pit in the youth's garden and bury him. They took him away and began to dig the ground. When the youth asked, the charioteer said that the king had ordered them to dig a pit here and bury the youth. Then, The youth, fearing that these executioners were cruel and lived by killing, said to the executioners, "If the gods grant me a boon, I will enter the city of feet and speak words." The executioners told the king this, and the king said, "If the youth wants the kingdom, give it to him." He was pleased and decorated all the roads of the city. Then, the youth, a mute cripple, entered the city on foot, and people were amazed, and hundreds of thousands of creatures gathered. That youth entered the city on foot and touched the king's feet, saying, "O lord of men, I am both mute and foolish, lacking wisdom. I will express myself clearly, I will express myself with words." And so on, he spoke these verses. "I am also complete in my faculties, because I remember my past lives. In the past, I acted as regent for sixty years in the human realm. Remembering that I experienced unbearable suffering in hell for sixty thousand years, I do not desire the kingdom because I cannot go to hell again. Please grant me permission to renounce." The king said, "Those austerities and sacrifices are for the sake of the kingdom. Why do you renounce the kingdom that is about to come into your hands?" The youth said: Like the kimpa fruit, do not indulge in desires. Like the taste of the nectar fruit, I will practice celibacy. The king said, "Child, all the happiness you experience is because of the kingdom, why do you abandon it?" The youth said, "From where suffering arises, do not think that is happiness. From where happiness arises, do not think that is suffering. Please grant me permission. I will go to the forest of austerities." The king said, "Child, for a while, decorate the foundation of the palace with incense and flowers.

If you are to dwell in the pleasures of fine food, clothing, ornaments, and music, sleeping on a grass mat under the trees of a monastery, lying with fierce wild animals, depending on clothes of tree bark, food of roots and fruits, and water to drink, why would you renounce the kingdom and go to the forest? The youth said: In the forest, wearing bark clothes and eating fruits, it is best to live with fierce wild animals. Sages fear the next world, the kingdom cannot be used for killing, beating, and imprisoning. Father, please allow me to go to the forest for asceticism. The king said: Son, first resolve these three doubts of mine, and after that you may not like to renounce. When you arrived in prosperous Varanasi (Varanasi) and said, "What is this empty place, or is there a resident?" what did you think when you said that? The youth said: To live for that deity! When I was ordered to be killed without fault, and no one spoke words of Dharma like "Why kill this youth?" thinking of that, I said that. The king said: Good. When you saw the corpse and said, "Is this the death of the dead, or the death of the living?" what did you think when you said that? The youth said: O deity, those who die having done evil deeds, that is the death of the dead; and those who die having done good deeds, that is the death of the living. Thinking of that, I said that. Good. When you saw the great heap of rice and said, "This great heap of rice has not been eaten from the beginning, and it will become infested with worms," what did you think when you said that? O deity, when these farmers harvest the ripened fruits of these fields, they take and eat them, and try to pay off their debts. In that way, they have actually eaten the root or foundation of the rice heap from the beginning. Similarly, when one obtains a human birth through the ten virtuous actions, if one does not accumulate the path of the ten virtuous actions, then the previous virtue will be interrupted, and if the root of virtue is interrupted, one will decline from the happy realms and remain in the lower realms. Thinking of that, I said that. Then the king, hearing those words, shed tears.
