说如果能供奉点燃千盏酥油灯，就传授佛法。对此他非常高兴，向整个赡部洲派遣使者，宣扬国王甘希尼巴勒达在七日之内，为了佛法，将身体的肉挖空，点燃千盏酥油灯。所有人都各自因悲伤而痛苦，来到那里顶礼。我们所有人都像盲人依靠向导或幼儿依靠母亲一样依靠您。如果国王您在身上点燃千盏酥油灯，必定会与生命分离，为了一个婆罗门而完全舍弃这个世界的众生是不应该的。王妃和五百位王子储君，以及成千上万的大臣们都祈请，但国王的誓愿坚定，无法劝阻。国王说：当我证得圆满正觉时，我将救度你们。说完，国王让人在自己的身体上挖洞，填满酥油灯的灯芯，点燃了一千盏酥油灯。然后对婆罗门说：先为我讲授佛法， 之后再点燃酥油灯。如果寿命终结，就无法听闻佛法了。说完，婆罗门说了这首偈颂：一切常有终将灭尽，高者亦终将堕落，相聚终将离别，有生终将有死。说完这首偈颂后，国王非常高兴，没有丝毫后悔之心。我寻求佛法是为了成就佛陀，将来证得圆满正觉时，愿以智慧之光照亮被愚痴蒙蔽的人们。刚发完誓愿，整个世界都剧烈震动。天神和菩萨们降临在虚空中，看着这位菩萨哭泣，并降下花雨。当时，天界的帝释天也以各种方式赞叹道：伟大的国王，您承受如此巨大的痛苦，难道没有后悔吗？国王说：没有后悔。帝释天说：像这样身体颤抖，感到不适，却说没有后悔，这如何令人相信呢？国王说：如果我从始至终都没有后悔，那么我身体上的伤口就恢复如初吧。

He said that if he could offer a thousand lamps, he would teach the Dharma. He was overjoyed and sent messengers to the entire Jambudvipa, proclaiming that King Kanishka Balada would, within seven days, for the sake of the Dharma, hollow out the flesh of his body and light a thousand lamps. Everyone was afflicted with sorrow and arrived there to pay homage. We all rely on you as a blind person relies on a guide or a young child relies on its mother. If you, O King, light a thousand lamps on your body, you will surely be separated from your life, and it is not right to completely abandon the beings of this world for the sake of one Brahmin. The queen and five hundred crown prince sons, and tens of thousands of ministers all pleaded, but the king's vow was firm and could not be dissuaded. The king said, 'When I attain perfect enlightenment, I will liberate you all.' Having said this, the king had holes made in his body, filled them with the wicks of lamps, anointed them with oil, and lit a thousand lamps. Then he said to the Brahmin, 'First teach me the Dharma, and then light the lamps. If my life ends, I will not be able to hear the Dharma.' Then the Brahmin spoke this verse: All that is permanent will perish. The high will eventually fall. Meeting will eventually lead to separation. Birth will eventually lead to death. As soon as he spoke this verse, the king was very happy, without any regret in his heart. My seeking of the Dharma is for the sake of attaining Buddhahood. When I later attain perfect enlightenment, may the light of wisdom illuminate those who are blinded by ignorance. As soon as he made this vow, the world trembled greatly. Gods and Bodhisattvas descended in the sky, watching the Bodhisattva and weeping, and also showering down a rain of flowers. Then, the divine witness Indra also praised him in various ways, saying, 'Great King, do you not regret enduring such great suffering?' The king said, 'I have no regrets.' Indra said, 'How can one believe that you say you have no regrets when your body is trembling and you are feeling unwell?' The king said, 'If I have no regrets from beginning to end, then may the wounds on my body be healed as before.'

G. Having said this, he immediately became without wounds as before. ༈. Also, in the past, in this Jambudvipa, the Blessed One himself became a great king named Jing Ling Gar Li. He proclaimed that whoever taught him the sacred Dharma, he would give whatever they desired. A Brahmin named Leu Du Chu said, "If you drive a thousand iron nails into your body, I will give you the Dharma." He agreed to this. Although everyone tried to stop him when he proclaimed it throughout the country, they could not stop him. First, he urged them to teach the Dharma. That Brahmin said, "All compounded things are impermanent, all births are accompanied by suffering, all dharmas are empty and without self, and even my 'I' does not exist." Pleased with these words, he had a thousand iron nails driven into his body. Minor kings, ministers, and many attendants wept and fell to the ground. The gods of the sky rained down flowers and shed tears. Then Indra came there and said, "Do you do this kind of hardship because you want to be Indra and a universal monarch, etc.?" The king said, "I do not desire the happiness of the three realms, but all the merit I have is for the sake of wanting to become a Buddha." Indra said, "When I look, the king's body is trembling and unbearable, who would believe that you say this and have no regrets?" The king said, "If I have no regret in my mind, may my body become without wounds as before!" As soon as he said this, his body became as before, and the gods and humans rejoiced. ༈. Also, in the past, in this Jambudvipa, the Blessed One took birth as the crown prince Ama Gama, the son of King Brahma Deva. He searched for the sacred Dharma in all directions, but could not find it, and became discouraged. Indra, the lord of the gods, knowing his thoughts, transformed himself into a Brahmin and stood at the gate of the king's palace, saying, "I have the Dharma." He promised to give whatever they desired to whoever taught him the Dharma. The Brahmin said, "If you fill a fire pit ten cubits deep with burning flames and jump into it as an offering, I will teach you the Dharma." He agreed to this and made a large fire pit. At that time, the king, queen, ministers, and palace attendants were uneasy and told the prince and the Brahmin not to do that.
