I will give up this body for the sake of eight words. The Rakshasa said: If you can give up your body, then listen carefully, and I will also teach this verse. Hearing this, the Brahmin was very happy, took off the clothes he was wearing and spread them on the ground, invited him to sit there, and with folded hands requested him to recite half a verse. He said: Having arisen, they will cease; the appeasing of them is bliss. Having said that, he said: Now you will hear the complete verse. If you are truly practicing benefit and happiness for sentient beings, then now is the time for you to give your body as alms. At that time, that Brahmin kept this matter deeply in mind, and wrote this verse on rocks, walls, trees, and roads everywhere. In order not to injure the flesh of his body, he tightened his clothes and climbed up a tree. At that time, the tree deity asked: Well done, noble man, what are you doing now? He thought that he wanted to repay the kindness of hearing the verse. The tree deity said: What benefit is there in hearing that verse? The Bodhisattva said: This verse is the Dharma that reveals emptiness by the Buddhas of the past, future, and present. I will give up my body for this Dharma. It is not for the sake of gain, fame, a wheel-turning king, gods, Brahma, and other happiness, but for the sake of benefiting all sentient beings. May sentient beings, seeing me give up this body, abide in generosity, and may those who are attached to generosity and controlled by pride also see this kind of giving. After making this aspiration, he gave up his body like spitting and throwing stones, and jumped from the tree. From the space above him, various sounds resounded to the end of the world. That Rakshasa transformed back into Indra's own body, and before the Bodhisattva fell to the ground, he safely caught him. Indra and the sons of the gods, together with the Great Brahma King, prostrated at the feet of the Bodhisattva and praised him, saying: Well done, well done, true Bodhisattva, acting for the benefit and happiness of immeasurable sentient beings, illuminating the lamp of the Great Dharma in the great darkness of ignorance. I will protect and guard the Great Dharma of the Tathagata,

Those harms that disturbed the mind, I repent and confess. When you attain Buddhahood in the future, may you also deliver us, I pray thus, and then disappeared. Thus, due to the cause and condition of giving up the body for half a verse, having completed the accumulation of twelve kalpas, he attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment before Maitreya and became a Buddha. Also, in a previous life, this Bhagavan was a Brahmin boy named Dharma Seeker, who possessed virtuous qualities such as morality and was renowned. A Brahmin became jealous of him and said, "If you can jump into a pit of fire, I will proclaim the well-spoken." When he agreed to this, the Brahmins and householders prevented him from jumping into the fire pit, but in order to fulfill the teacher's intention, he could not refuse, so he prepared the fire pit and requested the Brahmin to proclaim the Dharma. That Brahmin said: Always rejoice in giving, Always practice perfect morality, Always strive to establish the supreme diligence, Attain the supreme Dharma with wisdom. He remembered these words well, gathered many people, and after saying these verses to them, said, "May this giving that I do for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment not be without fruit." Having spoken these words of truth, he jumped into the fire pit, and the fire went out. He sat on top of what had become a lotus pond and taught the Dharma that possessed the qualities of the four Brahmaviharas. That Brahmin's entire body was on fire, and he fell into the great Avici hell. The Dharma Seeker said, "Teacher, do not be discouraged, I will save you." Then he said, "By the power of this truth that I practice the Bodhisattva path for the benefit of all sentient beings, may the burning of this Brahmin's body be extinguished and may he be liberated from the hell of sentient beings." Having said this, that Brahmin was liberated from hell. The Buddha said, "That Brahmin at that time was the householder Wealth Protector." Again, in the past, when the Bhagavan himself was a king named Brahma-given, who was about to give away all of his cows, he went to the pasture with his virtuous queen and his eldest son, a youth, and sat down.
