And in order to be born as animals, they took the bodies of carnivores, bears, pigeons, monkeys, dragons, Snakes, garudas, fish, turtles, foxes, rabbits, cows, horses, etc., and benefited those beings. Also, in this fortunate kalpa, among countless pretas, they took the body of a preta and benefited them. They were born in the house of a butcher, killing birds, pigs, etc., and tying fishing nets. They were born in the house of a bad caste, and even became thieves. Although bodhisattvas do not have such evil deeds, in order to liberate sentient beings, they take such bodies by the power of great vows, and benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings. Also, they are born in remote areas, engaging in non-dharma through the gate of the three poisons, not believing in the Three Jewels and the results of karma, and not respecting parents, relatives, elders, and seniors. They take such bodies and benefit sentient beings. In addition, they also show birth as women, ugly bodies, bodies of desire, anger, and ignorance, bodies of jealousy and stinginess, deception and deceit, hermaphrodites, eunuchs, and naked heretics who say there are no results of karma, etc. In order to liberate sentient beings, they benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings by entering into the Dharma of evil views through the power of showing the armor of great vows, as stated in the Nirvana Sutra and other sutras. Kashyapa asked: In the past, When I practiced the conduct of a bodhisattva, I completely gave my body to sentient beings, and made them my slaves and servants. I made them do all kinds of work. Some of them were made to dispose of feces and urine, and similarly, to dispose of manure, to dispose of soil, to pick grass, to take grain and milk, etc., to take wood and coal, fire and water, etc. I do not remember the thought of not doing such various tasks afterwards. I do not remember not following after them even when they were sent to take incense, flowers, food, fruits, etc. I do not remember having the thought of following after those who were made to do good things, and not following after those who were made to do bad things. Of the Kshatriya caste

I do not have the thought of following or not following Brahmins, common people, etc. Rather, I followed whoever called me first. I do not recall not having done my best in whatever righteous deeds I was asked to do, nor that those deeds were definitely not completed. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Holder of the World: "Noble sons, in the past, with the strength of great diligence and the power of great skillful means, I worked for the benefit of sentient beings and accumulated the collections for unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Noble sons, I clearly remember that in the past, in bygone times, for the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, I even gave away my body completely in a single day. Noble sons, in the past, for hundreds of thousands of lifetimes, I saw hungry and thirsty sentient beings. I cut off the flesh of my own body, cooked it, and gave it away, but at that time, I did not give rise to a mind of agitation or regret. Rather, I universally generated great compassion for those sentient beings." As it is said, when a Bodhisattva is in the world, he puts on the great armor of the inconceivable and enters into the immeasurable practice of the six perfections. Having done great deeds for sentient beings, one should know that his diligence is immeasurable. The chapter on diligence. The way in which the Bhagavan himself, in the past when he became a Bodhisattva, completely sought the excellent Dharma by giving away things that were difficult to give away, etc., was as follows: In the past, in a time when Buddhas had not yet come into the world, the Bhagavan himself became a non-Buddhist Brahmin. Knowing all the treatises, being gentle, without afflictions, and possessing a pure mind and conduct, he searched in all directions for the sutras of the Great Vehicle, but he did not find even the name. At that time, he lived in the Snowy Mountains (Himalayas), where there were rivers and beautiful trees. He ate roots and fruits and focused on meditation. He stayed there for countless years, but he did not hear of the coming of the Buddha into the world or even the name of the sutras of the Great Vehicle. While he was practicing such austerities, Indra and the sons of the gods gathered together and praised each other in verses, saying: Here is such an ascetic.

While dwelling there, some people speculated, "If this person is a heretic, is he trying to obtain the means of the god Indra through this method?" At that time, a god's son named a sage said, "This person is not seeking the means of the gods, but for the benefit of all sentient beings, he practices asceticism without attachment to his body and all worldly enjoyments. In this way, this person is only seeking to awaken to unsurpassed enlightenment." Indra said, "As you say, if he truly becomes a Buddha's tree, he will become the refuge of the entire world, his shade will dispel all the suffering of afflictions, and will also pacify the suffering of afflictions of myself and others. But that is very difficult to believe, because countless sentient beings generate the mind of perfect enlightenment, but like the moon in water, which moves when the water moves, they retreat with just a slight cause. Like a painted image that is difficult to create but easy to destroy, the mind is difficult to generate but easy to reverse. And like a person who goes to battle fully armed but retreats upon encountering the enemy, many retreat upon seeing the fear of samsara. Therefore, although I see that this person practices purely with difficulty, I do not believe whether his intention is firm or not for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment, so I will go to him and examine whether this person can place the burden of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment on his shoulders. Just as two chariot wheels and two wings of a bird are needed to accomplish a goal, I see that this ascetic also possesses discipline, but it is necessary to examine whether he has extremely subtle wisdom. If he has such wisdom, he can carry the heavy burden of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment on his shoulders. Just as a fish has many offspring, but few grow into big fish, and a mango tree has many flowers, but few become fruit, although many generate the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment, few ultimately become fruit. Therefore, let us go together to investigate that person! Let us examine him like gold that is burned, hammered, and polished." Having said this, Indra himself transformed into an extremely terrifying Rakshasa, descended from the snow mountain, approached his direction, and shouted loudly:
