A disgusting fellow sat cross-legged in the sky and said: I have previously heard the well-spoken Dharma from the Tathagata, if you wish to pursue it, then take it! The king said: I desire the well-spoken words of the great being, I will give you whatever you desire. He said: If you give me your three beloved ones, namely yourself, your son, and your wife, then I will later speak the well-spoken words. The king said: What use are these? He said: To be eaten, and then I will speak the Dharma. Then the king looked at his son on the right and his wife sitting on the left. The flesh-eater said: Great king, quickly give them to me and listen to the well-spoken words that will liberate you from samsara. Then, knowing the king's additional thoughts, the flesh-eater spoke the verse: For the sake of oneself and for the sake of others, if you desire happiness, do not commit evil; whichever child desires happiness but commits evil, he will individually experience its fruit. Thus he spoke. Then the king said: This well-spoken verse is truly wonderful! For the sake of this verse, even if I were to give away sons as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, I would desire to obtain this verse. Thinking thus, he rose from his seat, grasped his son with his right hand, and began to give him away. Then the form of that flesh-eater disappeared, and he revealed himself as Indra, praising him, saying: Your courage in giving is excellent! I am Indra, ask for whatever supreme thing you desire! The king said: Please grant me the supreme thing that is without birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, and so on. Indra said: That is not within my power, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, possess that. Ask for whatever other supreme thing you desire! To this, the king said: That even the powerful one has no power, even children can see. Indra was disappointed, like an elephant sinking in the mud. Thus he spoke. Furthermore, in the past, the Bhagavat himself was a king named Excellent Complexion, who possessed the power and glory to rule this world, and he thought: I have benefited beings with jewels and enjoyments, but I have not benefited them with the sacred Dharma, I must seek the sacred Dharma to liberate beings.

Then he proclaimed, "In this world, whoever has the supreme Dharma and can show it to me, I will give them whatever they desire." But no one could show it. Then, the king, distressed by sorrow, was heard by Weary Son, who, in order to awaken him, transformed himself into a terrifying yaksha. At the gate of the palace, he said, "Whoever desires to hear the Dharma, listen to me!" Hearing this, the king was delighted. He prostrated to the yaksha, placed him on a high seat, and gathered ministers and many attendants to sit together. The yaksha said to the king, "Hearing the Dharma is very difficult. If you want to hear the Dharma, this is not enough. You must let me eat your queen and prince, and then I will bestow the Dharma." Then, the king offered the yaksha the queen he cherished most and the prince. The yaksha ate them in front of everyone in the midst of the many attendants. The ministers wailed, but the king was very firm in seeking the Dharma and could not be dissuaded. After the yaksha ate them, he spoke the verse: "All conditioned things are impermanent; all that is born is accompanied by suffering; the five aggregates are empty because they have no characteristics; there is no self and no belonging to self." After saying this, the king was joyful and delighted, and not even a hair's breadth of regret arose. Then, he wrote it down and proclaimed it throughout Jambudvipa, making everyone learn it. Then, Weary Son transformed back into his own body, praised it as very good, and returned the prince and queen as before. Also, in a past life, the Bhagavan in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named Kanishka Bali, who ruled over many small kingdoms. He was very compassionate and thought, "I have become the leader of many beings, and these many people also trust and rejoice in me. I should benefit them with the supreme Dharma." Then, he ordered his ministers, "Whoever can show me the supreme Dharma, I will give them whatever they desire." A Brahmin named Leu Duji said, "I have the Dharma." The king honored him greatly and wanted to hear the Dharma. The Brahmin said, "If you want to obtain the Dharma, King, your body must..."
