Then, having renounced in the presence of that Thus-Gone One, he properly applied his mind. At that time, countless billions of beings said to each other, 'This śrāmaṇa is diligent in the work of Māra. Teaching with deceitful illusion, a dharma associated with the work of Māra, he has caused some to lose their male organs, some to lose their female organs, some to shave their hair and beards, and some to wear colored clothes, and so on. Similarly, he teaches about birth in the three realms of gods, humans, and evil destinies, and also preaches to some the dharma of no death, transference, and birth. With the illusory form of a śrāmaṇa possessing the magic of transforming women, he deceives, and even his mark is not seen, nor are his words heard. We should flee.' At that time, there was one named the Lost Youth, and he also said, 'My wife, maidservants, and daughters have also been transformed into males by this wicked śrāmaṇa, having their hair shaved, wearing colored clothes, and I alone am oppressed by sorrow. We should flee and go to the delightful mountain rocks where even the sound of that śrāmaṇa is not heard.' As it was said, many hundreds of thousands of beings fled together to the delightful solitary places on the outskirts, because that śrāmaṇa with the appearance of an ascetic said that there was annihilation, no liberation, and no fruition of karma, and was diligent in the work of Māra. To look at him and listen to his dharma is a distraction of the mind. Those who shave their heads and renounce, eat begged food, feel weary, delight in solitude, and, under the guise of abandoning the pleasures of desire, the śrāmaṇa who speaks of annihilation is an enemy of sentient beings, and his actions are unheard of and unseen before, I know.' In this way, he caused many beings to hold such sinful views. Then, the great śrāmaṇa Uḍapāla heard this and thought, 'If I do not completely liberate these beings from sinful views and establish them in correct views, then my becoming a śrāmaṇa is meaningless. In the future, when I become a Buddha, how will I be able to liberate the wretched beings?' He strengthened his resolve, and with the power of compassion, the Thus-Gone One Light Peaceful Fragrance.

I asked Lotus Face (Ubala Face), (and learned that) surrounded by hundreds of thousands of beings, wandering in the villages of remote areas and rocky places, liberating beings from wrong views, placing them in the Three Vehicles, and proclaiming the Jewel Crest Dharani to women, transforming them into men. All of these were offered to that Buddha, and they became monks. That lost young man (the misguided one) said, "I will lead my retinue with Lotus Face (Ubala Face). I will act as a demon in this pure land of the Buddha, from the time they are in the womb until they sit under the Bodhi tree, creating obstacles to make them afraid. Even after attaining Bodhi, I will destroy his teachings." He made this vow. To this, the monk Lotus Face (Ubala Face) said, "He made such a malicious vow, the great powerful one strived to make him generate faith, let him abandon wrong views, confess his sins, and let him generate Bodhicitta, causing the lost young man (the misguided one) to be tamed, generate faith, and possess great compassion, (he vowed) when you become a Buddha, please prophesy my supreme Bodhi." Thus it is said in the Jewel Crest Dharani Sutra. The nun Wonderful Goddess at that time was the Bodhisattva Maitreya, the lost young man (the misguided one) refers to this evil demon, and later, as he vowed to prophesy Bodhi, (the Buddha) prophesied him. Also, in the past, the Bhagavan himself transformed into a king named Righteous One in this Jambudvipa, he believed in the Mahayana sutras, without stinginess and jealousy, taught the Dharma, and helped the poor and helpless. At that time, there were no Buddhas and Pratyekabuddhas in the world, so the king served the Brahmins for twelve years, offering them everything they needed. The king said, "Venerable ones, please generate the supreme Bodhicitta." They said, "King, the nature of Bodhi does not exist, and the Mahayana sutras are the same." They slandered in this way. The king had faith in the Mahayana, even if he killed the Brahmin who slandered the Mahayana sutras, he did not fall into hell from then on because of this reason, the power of protecting the Mahayana sutras is so immeasurable. Thus it is said.

Earth. Furthermore, in a past life, during the teachings of Buddha Melodious Voice, there was a king named Glorious Light who made and offered many stupas to that Buddha. At that time, the Bhagavan himself was born as a Bodhisattva named Given by Bliss. He wrapped his right hand in cloth, put it in sesame oil, and lit it to offer to the Tathagata. The light suppressed the radiance of hundreds of thousands of millions of other lamps, and with great light pervaded all directions as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and the earth shook, and rains of offerings fell in the Buddha fields. That Bodhisattva, without changing the color of his face, with the samadhi of equality completely elaborated, made those assemblies widely understand with a melodious voice. There, the gods made offerings, and King Glorious Light, seeing this, jumped from the top of a hundred thousand-cubit palace together with eighty queen consorts. Going to see the Bodhisattva, his body was unharmed, and seeing the Bodhisattva's burning hand, he wept loudly and spoke verses. To this, the Bodhisattva Given by Bliss said: Even if one has no hands, that is not being incomplete. Whoever does not have discipline, that is being incomplete. With this decaying body, it is a place of inconceivable giving. It is the support of offerings by all the worlds. I offer to the Tathagata. After speaking such verses, by speaking words of truth, the earth shook and his hand returned to its original state. As soon as any woman saw that monk Given by Bliss, she immediately turned away from the nature of a woman and received the prophecy of non-retrogression. Limitless beings, including gods, also entered the supreme Bodhi. Furthermore, in the past, beyond countless immeasurable eons, in the world called Rain-Arising, a Tathagata named King of Fearful Sound arose and taught the Dharma to the Shravakas and Bodhisattvas. The measure of his life was as many eons as the sands of four Ganges rivers, hundreds of thousands of millions. After he passed away, after hundreds of thousands of millions of eons
