The lord of hundreds of thousands of gods, holding a precious vase made of merit, filled with pure water, arrived before the Tathagata. The Blessed One extended his right hand, made of a hundred blessings, and from his five fingers emitted great light, illuminating the gods and many attendants. The Tathagata himself emitted light from the crown of his head towards the sick monk, illuminating the sick person, and as soon as the light touched him, the suffering of the sick person was eliminated. The monk, whose body was covered with pus and blood, pleaded for refuge, unable to prostrate. The Tathagata took the vase from the hand of the lord of hundreds of thousands of gods with his right hand and poured it on the head of the sick monk. With his left hand, he washed all the wounds, and all the diseases were cured. The monk was delighted and prostrated to the Blessed One, saying: "I prostrate to the father of great compassion, the supreme king of physicians!" Having said this, he requested: "Now that the disease of my body has been cured, please teach me the Dharma to cure the disease of my mind." The Blessed One then taught him the Dharma, and said: "I am mindful of your deep kindness towards me, and now I repay you." The Blessed One made him happy, and the monk attained the fruit of an Arhat. The retinue of gods asked the Blessed One: "You personally wiped his body and bathed him, what kind of deep kindness is this?" The Blessed One taught: "In the past, immeasurable kalpas ago, there was an evil, unlawful king who consulted with five hundred ministers: 'Whoever violates the law, you have the right to punish them, and we will share the wealth that is obtained.' At that time, these five hundred people often whipped and interrogated others, and when they obtained a large amount of wealth, they dealt with it in this way. For those who had no money, they would even persecute them to the point of death. At that time, a layperson slightly violated the law and was brought before these five hundred people to be whipped and interrogated. When those ministers heard that this layperson was very virtuous, they did not harm him, but released him. One of these five hundred people was this monk, and that layperson was the Blessed One himself! Therefore, the Bodhisattva in immeasurable kalpas ago...

It is to repay the kindness, whether light or heavy, and it is said that it will never be forgotten until enlightenment. Furthermore, in the past, countless eons ago, the Blessed One himself was a merchant leader named Dedpon Longden. He, together with his companions and other men, became proficient in writing, crafts, arithmetic, mercantile terminology, and sixty-four arts. At that time, one companion said: "Young man, do you not know the faults of going to other places? The aggression of others, the faults of the wilderness, the faults of lack of water, the faults of scarcity of food and drink, the threat of fierce beasts in unfriendly wildernesses, the faults of thieves, the faults of the sinking of large ships in the ocean, the terror of rakshasa women, and all harms can be completely avoided, do you not know? Young man, do you enjoy the wealth of other people's parents? Do you not know our suffering, deceived by what is not Dharma? Do you not care about these light objects that others have accomplished with great effort as mentioned above?" Having heard these words of encouragement, he thought about it and encouraged his companions in this way. "Now, accumulating wealth is so painful, so I must accumulate wealth properly." Having said this, he said to his parents: "Parents, I will go to trade and be able to do the work of a merchant leader. Son, there are countless faults in going to other places, do not go. We have many hidden treasures within seven generations, so stay without worry. Enjoy them and give up the idea of going elsewhere." His father said so. "No, father, if the wealth accumulated by seven generations is not used and left there, I am not willing to use what they have left, so please allow me to go." Having said this, his parents did not strongly stop him, so he entered the ocean, and the wind carried him to the island of jewels, and he filled the ship with priceless jewels and returned, crossing the ocean, and when he bathed in the ocean, the jewel he wore on his hand fell into the great ocean. Immediately he took a water scoop, and with great courage, he thought: "In order to find the jewel, I will try my best to drain the ocean."
