From the Saka race. That prince protected five thousand living beings by allocating them, and expounded the profound Dharma, the emptiness without characteristics. At that time, the monks with attachment to characteristics came with weapons, saying, "Killing this monk who speaks of non-Dharma will bring merit." At that time, the monk Melodious Light prostrated to the Buddhas and said, "If these Dharmas are all emptiness, then by the power of this truth, may these weapons all become Mandarava flowers." As soon as he spoke, all the weapons turned into Mandarava flowers, and the great earth also shook. The weapon-bearing monks were terrified and amazed, and could not approach. They offered a hundred pieces of silk and listened to the Dharma of emptiness. Furthermore, a thousand opposing monks always slandered the Dharma speaker Melodious Light, speaking unpleasant words, but he never wavered from the power of patience, and taught the Dharma to many beings for a long time. Moreover, the Bhagavan was once reborn as a Naga king named Drum, and Avalokiteshvara was his younger brother, named Near Drum, they were two brothers. In another place, they went to the place where the Naga Drum Sound lived, and that Naga king angrily exhaled smoky breath, and reviled them with harsh words such as "evil one, pretending to be a practitioner," and repeatedly drove them away. Near Drum became angry and began to destroy all the cities of the Naga king. At this time, the great Naga king Drum pacified his anger with well-spoken words, causing Near Drum to have faith, and those well-spoken words still benefit many beings to this day. These verses are explained in the verses of the Naga king Drum Sound. In other Jataka tales, there are Naga Wrath and Near Wrath, and the situation is similar to this. Also, when the elephant transformed into the six-tusked elephant who protects the earth, a hunter wearing monastic robes shot it with a poisoned arrow. The female elephant wanted to crush the hunter to death for revenge, but the elephant stopped her, and with respectful heart, he offered his tusks. Also, long ago, in a forest monastery, when the leader of a herd of wild buffaloes became powerful, a mischievous monkey determined and clearly saw that the buffalo leader was compassionate and not angry.

Having recognized this, he became fearless. That great Bodhisattva began to harm him in various ways of all kinds of abuse. When the buffalo was sleeping comfortably, the monkey suddenly jumped on top of it, sometimes riding on it and running, sometimes blocking its way to eat when it was hungry, sometimes stirring its ears with a stick, sometimes when it went swimming in the water, riding on its head and covering its eyes with both hands, and sometimes riding on it and running with a stick raised, pretending to be Yama. However, the Bodhisattva endured all those rude jokes without anger or displeasure, as if they were favors. A yaksha, unable to bear him being tormented in this way, in order to test him, waited for that bull to return with the monkey riding on it, and then said, "Hey, wait a moment. Did you buy this unruly monkey? Or did you lose in gambling? Or are you a little afraid? Or do you think I have no power? Why does it insult you and ride on you like this? Alas! Your horns can even destroy stone mountains, and kicking angrily can destroy the top of cliffs. Your body is hard and stable, and your strength and power are so great that even a lion can lose courage. If you are kind to this monkey, whose nature is bad and incurable, it will only get worse. Crush it thoroughly with your hooves or horns!" The Bodhisattva said in gentle words, "Knowing that this monkey is weak and always behaves dishonestly, I should be patient with it. To be patient with the weak and mistaken is true patience. Therefore, I endure as much as I can the insults of this weak monkey, and I will not abandon the practice of patience." The yaksha said, "If that is the case, you will never be free from the harm it does to you, for even if you cultivate patience towards the untamed, it will not stop harming you, but will hold on to you tightly." The Bodhisattva said, "I abide in patience and do not harm others, but if I teach it with methods, and if it does not listen, there are other lesser methods of patience, and I will turn it away from the evil path."
