A stupa was made there. It is said that the king and queen of that time were the present-day Śuddhodana and Māyā. Furthermore, in the past, the Blessed One himself became a lion named "Firm Vow," whose body shone like gold. He ate fruits and roots, harmed no sentient beings, and respected those who had renounced the world. There, a hunter thought, "If I kill this lion and offer its skin to the king, I will be rid of my poverty." He put on crimson robes, disguised himself as a renunciate, and, holding a bow and arrow, struck the sleeping lion with a poisoned arrow. When the lion awoke and approached the hunter, he saw him wearing monastic robes and thought, "If I harm someone who holds these monastic robes, which are the banner of the Buddhas of the three times, it would be generating ill will towards the Buddhas of the three times." So he abandoned his intention to kill. As he was about to die from the poisoned arrow, he said, "ཡ་ལ་ལ་བ་ཤ་ས་སཱ་ཧཱ། (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning)." The words caused the earth and sky to shake, and rain fell without clouds. The gods, seeing that the Bodhisattva had entered the form of a lion and was killed by the hunter, offered the lion's body with a rain of divine flowers. The hunter took the skin and offered it to the king, requesting a reward. The scriptures say that if any animal's fur is like gold, it must be a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Therefore, why give this hunter a reward? If I do, it would be like killing him myself, and it would become a sin. He thought this, but the hunter repeatedly requested, so he gave a small reward and then asked the hunter, "When you killed this lion, what strange things or omens occurred?" The hunter spoke the previous eight syllables from his mouth. He said, "The earth and sky shook, rain fell without clouds, and the gods showered down a rain of flowers." Hearing this, the king was very displeased and generated faith. He summoned all the intelligent people and analyzed the words spoken by the lion, but no one understood or comprehended them. He asked a wise man named Shama in a secluded place, and he said, "The meaning of ཡ་ལ་ལ་(Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is to shave the head and change the color of the monastic robes."

It is said that merely wearing the robes quickly liberates one from birth and death. The term "Vasha Sa" refers to: shaving the head and wearing dyed Dharma robes, all of which are marks of the noble ones, close to Nirvana. The meaning of "Saha" is: if one shaves the head and wears dyed Dharma robes, then gods, humans, and the entire world will respect him. After teaching this, the king was very happy and gathered eighty-four thousand petty kings, displaying the lion skin placed on a chariot of seven jewels for all to see. They offered incense and flowers and made them prostrate. Then the lion skin was placed in a golden casket and enshrined as a stupa. Many people there were reborn in the heavens. Thus, the teacher, the Bhagavan, transformed into a lion, and merely by generating a virtuous mind towards the lion wearing saffron robes, one would become a universal monarch for ten thousand trillion kalpas, giving happiness to all sentient beings, increasing the deeds of merit, and never being satisfied. That king, by offering to the skin of the little lion, became the supreme among gods and humans for ten thousand trillion kalpas, performing all good deeds, and he is the Bodhisattva Maitreya. That hermit was Shariputra, and that hunter is now Devadatta. Furthermore, in the past, in Varanasi, there was a king named Brahma-dana, who was loving and compassionate, and very generous. His queen was fierce, angry, and deceitful, and she gave birth to an only son named Dharma-pala. That child was kind-hearted, had faith, was dedicated to benefiting himself and others, was very compassionate, and was the darling of everyone's heart. When he was learning letters with the children at the teacher's place, in the spring, he played in the garden with the king and queens. The wicked queen, overcome by jealousy and anger, quarreled. When the king offered her half of the drink he had drunk, she became angry and sent a message to the king, saying: If I drink the other half that you drank, I would be drinking my son's blood. Because of indulging in desires, there is no evil that one would not dare to do. King Brahma-dana
