How were the previous three given? By giving your life, the four noble ones are given, and that is how it happened. The Rakshasa said: Why is the kingdom ruined? I suffer in the forest. Having fallen from the Dharma and gained a bad reputation. How can I abandon those? The prince said: Why do you fall from Dharma and politics, happiness and fame? Shouldn't the source that causes poverty be abandoned? And so on. You used to live in the kingdom, now do not be dominated by the mind that makes you a man-eating Rakshasa, you should enter the path that does not harm Dharma and politics, after advising in this way, the Rakshasa barefoot prince prostrated to him and promised not to eat human flesh in the future, and also offered the prisoners. There, Prince Moon went to the imprisoned sons of the royal family, and they were happy, thinking that we were saved, and breathed a sigh of relief. He told them not to harm Barefoot in the future, and made them swear an oath. After being released from prison, the Barefoot Prince was also sent away by those five hundred princes. He was placed on the throne, and ruled the country with Dharma, and those princes also served him. The other princes were also placed on their respective thrones. That Prince Moon was the Bhagavan himself, and the Rakshasa Barefoot later became a monk named Angulimala. Therefore, meeting with virtuous people brings great benefits, doing as the virtuous people say, being skilled in using methods, accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, even enduring great difficulties, even becoming discouraged, not retreating from the path of Dharma, relying on Dharma, accomplishing the vast deeds of oneself and others, one should contemplate these reasons and generate respect for the merits of Dharma. Again, in the past in Varanasi (ancient Indian place name, now Varanasi) there was a king named Brahma-datta, who ruled the kingdom, and the whole country was rich and peaceful. At that time, the son of the Brahmin advisor to the king, named Green, was proficient in the eighteen sciences, had faith and good thoughts, was dedicated to benefiting himself and others, had compassion, served his parents, and this Bhagavan was him in the Bodhisattva's life.

When the parents of Green became old and their eyes failed, those two parents requested King Brahma-datta, "Please authorize this young Green as the ruler. We are going to the forest of asceticism." The king said to Green, "You become the ruler." Green said, "I am not suitable to be the ruler, I want to serve those who are old and weak, and whose faculties have declined." He abandoned the position of ruler and his home like discarding ashes, and stayed in the forest as a companion to his parents. He would rise early in the morning and serve his parents with toothpicks and clean water. After that, he would perform the fire sacrifice, and then he would enter the forest for fruits and roots. He would bring back fruits, roots, and cool water, give them to his parents, and then diligently meditate in a place near them, spending his time in this way. One day, he got up early in the morning, bowed to his parents' feet, and then spoke of what he had seen in a dream: "In my dream, a black snake devoured its own body, and a black rope bound me and led me to the south. Seeing these terrifying dreams, my heart is filled with worry, and I think I will be separated from my guru, which is terrible." Just then, those two parents sighed, sat facing the sun, prayed with sincerity, and then took a water pot to fetch water. At that time, King Brahma-datta went hunting and entered that forest of asceticism. The king was one who could discern direction by sound, and although he did not see the form, he heard a sound like that of a wild animal, so he drew his bow and shot, hitting Green's heart. He was hit in a vital spot by the arrow and fell to the ground, but he endured his own suffering, thinking only of his parents, and said sadly: "With one arrow, I and my parents, whose faculties have declined, and the three of us are killed." When the king heard this, he asked: "How can one arrow kill three people?" Then, Green cried out in a voice of sorrow, saying: "More pitiable than me are my parents, who have also become blind."
