When that happened, the king asked the fortune-tellers, "Because harm was done to the hermit, the gods are displeased, so it has become like this." When asked what should be done, they said, "If you make offerings to the gods with tormas and so on, and ask the hermit and the gods for forgiveness, that will be beneficial." Just as they said, the king proclaimed this in all the cities, made offerings to the gods, gave alms to the poor, and then went to the presence of the hermit Endurer, prostrated at his feet, and asked for forgiveness. The hermit said, "Great king, I forgive you." "How can I believe that?" The hermit said, "If I am not lying, may the blood flowing from my body turn into milk." As soon as he said that, it became so. Still not believing, the hermit said, "Even if you cut my body, if I do not have even the slightest hatred, may my body return to its former state." When he said that, his body returned to its former state. The king and his retinue looked with astonished eyes and prostrated at his feet. That king always made offerings to that hermit. At that time, about a thousand wanderers who had joined other schools, out of jealousy, scattered unclean earth and dust on that hermit who had become the king's object of worship. That hermit made the aspiration, "By this practice of patience, may I, when I attain enlightenment, wash away all your dust and impurities with the water of nectar, and may the impurities of desire be completely purified." Thus, the hermit Endurer was the Bhagavan himself, the king Strife-born was the all-knowing Kaundinya, his four ministers were the other five monks, and the thousand wanderers were the thousand monks including Drinking Light. Thus it was said. Again, in the past, when the Bhagavan became the king of Varanasi (modern Varanasi, India) named Great Power Division, that country was prosperous and flourishing, and the harvest was good. He ruled the kingdom according to dharma, giving all beings what they desired, and establishing them in the ten virtues, so even non-humans protected it, and that kingdom was very peaceful. At that time, the king of Jambudvipa was Dharma.

Because the king practiced tyranny and harmed many living beings, the people, fearing heavy taxes and punishments, fled to the territory of King Power Great (king's name). When King Sun (king's name) saw his people fleeing there, he assembled four divisions of troops and went to the territory of King Power Great (king's name). When King Power Great (king's name) heard this, he said to his ministers, "I cannot commit evil for the sake of a brief lifetime. If you do not want the country to perish, then go and worship King Sun (king's name). I will not harm him." It is better to wear clothes made of bark stripped from trees in the forest, eat fruits, and be with wild animals. Those who fear the next life will not kill or imprison others for the sake of the throne. After speaking, the ministers thought, "This king cannot bear to kill anyone. If we are all destroyed, that would be terrible. It is better to abandon him alone." So they submitted to King Sun (king's name). King Power Great (king's name) realized that these ministers had abandoned him, so he went to the forest to live in seclusion. King Sun (king's name) made the people submit to him and asked where the king had gone. They replied that he had fled. So King Sun (king's name) ruled that country. At that time, in a mountain village, a poor and destitute Brahmin had many sons and daughters. When a famine occurred in the area, he was unable to support them. He thought, "King Power Great (king's name) is a compassionate person, perhaps I can beg for wealth from him." So he went to Varanasi (ancient Indian place name). After hearing that King Power Great (king's name) had gone to the forest, he felt sad and thought that if he went to find him in the forest, perhaps he could receive alms. So he went to the forest where the Bodhisattva was living and told him in detail about his situation. The Bodhisattva said, "Have you not heard that I live in the forest? Where is there wealth now?" The Brahmin felt hopeless and fell to the ground. The Bodhisattva sprinkled water on his face and helped him up. The Brahmin entered the dense forest, tied a rope to a tree, and prepared to hang himself. When the Bodhisattva saw this, he felt compassion and thought, "If"
