When the king also became slightly hesitant, a goddess who had previously enjoyed pleasures with that king and followed him, said to the king with the words of evil friends: Do not give rise to such thoughts! These two are true preachers of the Dharma. Remember the Dharma they taught before, and do not abandon them! After saying this, the king pondered it over and over again, and did not abandon the teachings of the Victorious One. When the king's younger brother, the cruel Nyango, became king, those evil friends urged him, saying: Kill these two monks who travel in the sky with mantras! So he divided his army and sent them to kill them, but the nagas and yakshas living in the forest drove them back with a rain of stones and bricks, and humiliated them. When the cruel king was about to die, because of the sin of being angry with the preacher of the Dharma, he was born in Avici hell for sixty lifetimes. Those many monks with wrong views who cursed and abandoned the king, experienced the suffering of sentient beings in hell for countless billions of eons. The goddess who encouraged the king and protected the preacher of the Dharma saw as many Buddhas as there are sands in the Ganges, made offerings and enjoyed pleasures, and together with the king, listened to the Dharma and generated the mind of enlightenment. Those sixty billion beings became Buddhas in other realms. The king who heard the Dharma was Maitreya, the goddess who benefited others was the Youthful Moonlight, and the king's cruel brother was Devadatta. Thus it was said. Furthermore, in the past, when the Tathagata named King of Bliss appeared in the world, this Jambudvipa was vast, measuring ninety billion yojanas. All eighty-four thousand great cities were made of the seven precious substances, and like the heavenly realms, they possessed amazing wealth. The Blessed One himself was born as a great king named Dapa Jin, a king endowed with Dharma. In the eighty-four thousand cities, that king had eighty-four thousand houses, and in each house there were eighty-four thousand women in the retinue of queens. That king's palace was made of the seven precious substances, and possessed all the implements of bliss.
