Having been praised and protected, those fish became very prosperous. Just as a human king protects his subjects by acting according to the Dharma. Then, after some time, those beings had little merit, and the sons of the gods who send down rain were also negligent and did not send down rain, so that lake did not fill up as before. Gradually, the spring sun's rays were hot and sharp, and associated with heat, it was dried up by the heat, and decreased day by day, becoming like a puddle. When that happened, those fish, even those hawks were looking for an opportunity, let alone other birds. Thus, the fish were curled up, unhappy, and could not even move their necks slightly. The fish king saw this and, as if with compassion, said: 'Alas! These fish are going to be ruined.' Thinking, he said: The water is also decreasing day by day, Like competing with the exhaustion of life. The rain clouds gather, Now it also seems very difficult. There is no way to escape, There is no one to take us elsewhere. Those who rejoice in our destruction, Our enemies have also appeared today. When this remnant of water dries up, I see with my own eyes, The enemies will eat us all up, What should we do about this?' When he thought like this, he saw that only the blessing of truth could help the poor. The Bodhisattva fish king, with the pain of compassion, let out a long sigh, looked up at the sky and said: We have become extremely poor, We do not remember intentionally killing sentient beings, By this truth, may the kings of the gods, Please send down rain and fill this lake!' As soon as he said this, due to his merit and the blessing of truth, and the power of the gods, nagas, yakshas, etc. who liked him, a great cloud out of season was filled with water, making a pleasant and deep sound, adorned with chains of lightning, gathering together, like a shower of pearls pouring down, filling the entire earth, and that lake was filled, the fish longed to live, and the birds that wanted to eat them scattered. The Bodhisattva was very happy in his heart, but he was worried that the rain would stop, and said: 'Great rain cloud, in the form of thunder and lightning, please send down rain for a long time!' Just as he said that, Indra was very

When he was happy, a great rain fell, this is the power of truth of the Fish King. All who have scorned the conduct of a being like you who benefits the world are wrong. From now on, I will be your friend, and this place will no longer be impoverished by your merits. Having praised him, he disappeared. Again, in the past, a Bodhisattva became a sapling being burned in a great forest. The forest was burned by the fire produced by rubbing two trees together. He generated loving-kindness, moistened his leaves with water, and sat on top of that great fire, shaking his leaves, saying: Here, any birds that cannot fly, fire, do not move! By the true words of meditating on loving-kindness, fire, please stop! Then, Indra helped him and sent down a great rain, and the fire was completely extinguished. Again, in the past, the Bhagavan himself was born as a great merchant who was of noble lineage, virtuous, intelligent, learned, wealthy, and respected by the king like a precious householder. When that great Bodhisattva went to the king's palace, the mother-in-law of that son-in-law, that is, the wife's mother, came to the merchant's house to meet her daughter, and was respected and conversed with. The mother asked: Daughter, does your family love you? Do they reciprocate the kindness you show them? Are you without discomfort? The daughter, ashamed, lowered her head and said: Such discipline, qualities, and conduct as his, even renunciates do not have. The mother was old and hard of hearing, and the daughter's voice was small, so she did not hear well, but only heard the sound of "renunciate," and thought: My daughter's son-in-law must have become a renunciate. So, she cried with sorrow for her daughter. Like this, I have lost my dear daughter, and what kind of renunciation, discipline, qualities, and conduct is his, being young and an important figure to the king, without conflict with family, without illness, without compassion? Like this, he has abandoned wealth and the gathering of family members, the thought of becoming a renunciate in a monastery.
