The effort to suck milk depends on the mind's desire, so there is no certainty about external time; the lotus has no effort because it has no consciousness; sucking milk is the effort of the mind. These two cannot be considered the same in any way. Therefore, if the king examines it carefully, the next world may exist. Then, because the king was very attached to wrong views and had great sins, he was displeased by the talk of the existence of the next world and said: 'Alas, great hermit, if the so-called next world is not like scaring a child, but you think I should believe it, then give me five hundred gold coins today, and I will pay you back a thousand gold coins in another world.' The Bodhisattva said: 'For the time being, lending money because one wants wealth is to lend to someone who is bad, greedy, unskilled, and lazy, and if you lend to them, it will be exhausted. If someone is ashamed, of noble birth, and skilled in multiplying wealth, even if they are very poor, they will repay the debt, and if you lend to them, the wealth will increase.' With the words of repaying the debt in another world, he said: 'Even if you lend wealth to someone like you who holds wrong views, it is meaningless, because you who hold wrong views will fall into hell and suffer because of your own karma, and who will seek that thousand gold coins at that time?' And he described in detail the suffering of being born in hell. When the king heard the terrifying words about the beings in hell, he abandoned his attachment to wrong views and came to believe in the existence of the next world. He prostrated to the great hermit and said: 'I have gone down the path of wrong views, and I am afraid to hear the suffering of hell, and I think, when will I experience such suffering? Please tell me the path that will not lead to evil destinies.' The Bodhisattva said: 'You should abide in the correct view, and encourage others to do so as well. With compassion, abandon non-virtues such as stinginess and immorality, and abide in generosity and morality, and restrain the senses. By the power of accumulating merit, you will not go to evil destinies, but will experience many joys of the heavens.' After teaching in this way, he disappeared there. The king and his entourage also abided in the correct view.
