Because it is not right to abandon, not fearing the blame of the world, not looking at the fruits of this life and the next, this is what the gods and glory abandon, so even for the sake of life, one should not like what is not Dharma, because great faults will arise, and the benefits are small and full of doubts. Furthermore, if noble people do things like slandering others, they will not be able to achieve their own happiness, so now, without harming anyone, they will abide in the Dharma and accomplish their own benefit. The minister said: For the sake of the lord, what fault is there in offering this with respect by the subjects? How can the people of this land give the name of non-Dharma to this? Therefore, please accept it. The king said: Although you are focused on affairs, it is necessary to examine who is the best among us two and the people of the land of Shivi (present-day Uttar Pradesh, India), including who is the best at knowing the Dharma. The minister said: Serving the elderly, being learned and wise, and understanding the best of meaning, there is no one greater than you. The king said: If so, I should not be deceived by this, why is that? Because the benefit and harm in the world depend on the actions of the kings. Thinking of being kind to the subjects, looking at the path of producing good reputation, just as those who follow where the leader goes follow without doubt, the subjects also follow the king's footsteps. Furthermore, listen to me. If he cannot protect himself, how can he protect the subjects? With a mind that cares for the subjects and protects the Dharma and pure reputation, I will not be swayed by the mind of desire. Then, that minister, recognizing the king's steadfastness, bowed and said: The subjects who have a king like you are fortunate. Abiding in the Dharma and not being attached to happiness, someone like you is rare even in the forest of asceticism. The title of great king is also fitting for you who possess virtues, he praised. In this way, great beings, even when suffering, abide in the discipline of not falling into evil paths. Furthermore, in the past, when the Bodhisattva was transformed into Indra, the lord of the gods, even though he possessed perfect heavenly bliss, he was driven by compassion to pay attention to the world.
