This teaching, as stated, is also accepted by Chandra (Tibetan: ཟླ་བས་), so it should be regarded as reasonable. Furthermore, in the commentary called "Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Garland," this teaching from the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way" (Bodhicharyavatara): "When seeing no-self, abandoning the eternal self," etc., is explained in the same way as the meaning of the four lines, which is exposing one's own shortcomings due to unfamiliarity with the great treatises. In this way, this teaching also implies that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realized the absence of self of phenomena, because these two self-grasps are the root of samsara, and without refuting the objects they cling to, one will never be liberated from samsara. No one would accept Hearers and Solitary Realizers who have not been liberated from samsara as Arhats. Therefore, it is very clear that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have a clear realization of the meaning of the two absences of self. Similarly, the great Bodhisattva Shantideva also explained and refuted the meaning of "Liberation comes from seeing the truth," etc. To this, I will answer: In general, due to clinging to phenomena, the innate self-grasp arises; to abandon the innate view of the perishable aggregate, one must abandon the clinging to the truth of the aggregates; if one does not abandon the innate view of the perishable aggregate, one will create karma and be born in samsara, which is the meaning of this teaching. But it is not as you think, although due to clinging to the aggregates as the basis of imputation as real, the innate self-grasp arises, if one realizes that the aggregates are many and impermanent in nature, even realizing indivisible particles, merely realizing the absence of reality of the aggregates or the coarse absence of self of phenomena, one can also realize the subtle absence of self of the person. The reason is that even if many phenomena of indivisible particles are established, one will not generate self-grasp towards them, because when one clearly sees that they are many and impermanent, one will only nominally impute "I" based on them, and they will not appear to be established in themselves, because this contradicts the object of clinging to the phenomena of the basis of imputation as self. For example, even if one does not know that the rope does not exist, it is possible to reverse the clinging to the snake. Therefore, as long as there is clinging to the collection of aggregates as a single, whole entity, then that person has self-grasp. As the "Garland of Jewels" says: "Because the collection is without substance, form is also without essence," etc., using the power of the senses.

As it is explained in detail, the aggregates that appear as clusters are argued to have parts and no nature of aggregation. The meaning of these is also elaborated by the feet of Chandrakirti, that is, it is necessary to realize that the gross aggregates are without truth, which is in terms of the Shravakas. Therefore, Bodhisattvas also clarify through "seeing" and so on. The Sutra also says, "Form is like a mass of bubbles." etc., which shows the Dharma-Nairatmya of the Shravaka school. This is said in the auto-commentary of the Entering the Middle Way. Therefore, if one does not understand the emptiness of the self of a person that arises dependently or is merely imputed dependently, it is impossible to be liberated. Just as the self of a person is imputed in dependence on the aggregates, so too are phenomena such as pots merely imputed in dependence on their respective limbs. Whatever is merely imputed is not established by its own nature, therefore it is merely emptiness. Therefore, Chandrakirti believes that if emptiness is not realized, in general, it is impossible to be liberated from samsara. However, he does not believe that Shravakas and Pratyekabuddha Arhats must realize all the subtle Dharma-Nairatmya, that is, the Dharma-Nairatmya of knowing that all phenomena, such as the two indivisible ones, are empty. This situation will be explained below. If one does not realize that the two indivisible ones are without truth, one cannot realize that the gross aggregates are without truth, because one clings to its basis of imputation as true. If one thinks that even if one does not abandon the clinging to truth of the indivisible, when the clinging to its accumulation as a single entity disappears, one can also reverse the ego-clinging, it is because once it is determined that the aggregates are many and impermanent phenomena, it is impossible to cling to the many, and it is also impossible to specifically designate any one of them and cling to it as self. If even if one directly realizes that the aggregates are many and impermanent, one cannot directly realize the selflessness of a person, then merely through the reasoning of one and many and the reasoning of the sevenfold chariot, it is impossible to uproot the object of clinging of innate ego-clinging. However, everyone commonly agrees that these reasonings can perfectly establish the selflessness of a person. Therefore, when the ascertainment of selflessness, which is inconsistent with the way of clinging of ego-clinging, is thoroughly accustomed, a clear appearance of selflessness will arise, thereby uprooting ego-clinging.
