It is just like talking about not even hearing the number of the three assemblies. Furthermore, to prove that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realization of the absence of self of phenomena through scriptural authority, the Commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way" quotes the Sutra of the Ten Grounds: Just as a prince, merely by being born with auspicious signs, overwhelms the assembly of ministers with the power of his lineage, but cannot overwhelm them with the power of his intellect, similarly, a bodhisattva on the first ground overwhelms the Hearers and Solitary Realizers with the power of merit, but cannot overwhelm them with intellect. On the seventh ground, however, he overwhelms them even with intellect. From this quote, it is said that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have knowledge that all phenomena are without inherent existence. If this is not the knowable object of Hearers and Solitary Realizers having realization of the absence of self of phenomena, then there is no definitive meaning. They say this. In response, if this quote is cited only with the intention of showing that the realization of the first ground practitioner is neither higher nor lower than that of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, then the statement that on the seventh ground, one overwhelms even with intellect, also establishes by implication that there is something more to realize than the two absences of self. So, what is it that one realizes on the seventh ground that is superior to the two absences of self? Therefore, Chandrakirti also said that this is in the manner of entering into cessation. One cannot enter into cessation unless one directly sees the absence of self. If one does not understand that the coarse aggregates are unreal, one cannot see the absence of self. This entirely depends on the key point of the above reasoning. Furthermore, because it is said, "It is clearly certain that there is realization that all phenomena are without inherent existence," it is uncertain to say that the word "all" includes all phenomena. Because the word "all" also applies to the parts needed to fully realize the absence of self of the person to be realized, and to understanding the whole and the permanent as unreal through impermanence and other means, just as in "all medicines gather" and "all people gather." Furthermore, when Lekden challenged Buddhapalita by saying that teaching the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless, it was because he thought that Hearers and Solitary Realizers also realize the complete absence of self of phenomena. Chandrakirti replied that this is not the case. If it is said that teaching the absence of self of phenomena in the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless, that is not pervasive. Because in the Hearer's Vinaya, the absence of self of phenomena is taught only briefly for the sake of abandoning afflictive obscurations. But in the Great Vehicle,

Because in order to eliminate all cognitive obscurations, it has the characteristic of extensively explaining the absence of self of phenomena, so this answer was given, which you also quoted. This is also a quote that I want to cite to you. It is concise in order to eliminate afflictive obscurations, and it is extensive in order to eliminate cognitive obscurations. This shows the difference between the completeness and incompleteness of the absence of self of phenomena, which is sufficient to correctly understand the absence of self of phenomena. If there are many reasons to understand it, one can understand it more deeply. If there are few, one can understand it less. If, after understanding selflessness through one-or-many separation, one examines it with great dependent arising, one must understand more from it. If that is the case, the understanding of the absence of self of phenomena will be endlessly repeated. Furthermore, in the Clear Words, it says: If one examines whether the nature of the aggregates is existent or nonexistent in the five aggregates of clinging, which are the basis of clinging to self, then those who desire liberation do not find it, so it is selfless. If there is no self, then the basis of establishing self, the mine, will also not be found, just as there are no parts when a chariot is broken. All these quotes show that if the nature of the five aggregates, such as form, and feelings, etc., are divided into moments and atoms, then they will not exist in the form of a whole and permanence, so they cannot even be established as clinging. This can also be explained as understanding the absence of self of a person, according to the view of the Hearers. It can also be explained as understanding the absence of self of a person through the absence of self of phenomena, where even the smallest parts of the five aggregates cannot be found. In any case, this shows the absence of self of a person. If there is no self, then the mine cannot exist, because the mine is established as being possessed by it after the self is established. If you say that, then this method has no proof for the current topic. Even if one does not understand that the smallest parts of the aggregates, etc., have no inherent existence, one can understand half of the absence of self of a person. How is it possible not to understand half of it? If one does not fully understand selflessness, then it is meaningless to cling to the aggregates, etc., as mine, just as even if there is a vase, no one will cling to it as the vase of a barren woman. Furthermore, even if you did not quote it, in the Clear Words related to the eighteenth chapter of the Root Wisdom, after refuting Lekden, it also says that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers also consider dependent arising to be free from all elaboration.
