Saffron eliminates heat in the liver, as well as Kapha (a term in Tibetan medicine referring to the earth element) and heat in the stomach, and stomach ailments. Ma Nu separates essence from dross. Gentian eliminates headaches, and rock rosin eliminates liver diseases. Nutmeg eliminates heart diseases, and heart ornaments bring comfort and joy to the heart. Kidneys with yogurt make the kidneys comfortable. Ruta eliminates coughs, licorice eliminates lung heat, Saffron eliminates small worms in the lungs. Spiny amaranth prevents dryness of the lung vessels. Jatamansi and Nard make the voice melodious. Usu soup eliminates stomach and liver diseases. So it is said. In the Precious Scroll, the first chapter of new and old heat diseases, mother and child combined, is completed. Now, in order to show the experiential teachings on epidemics, swellings, and consumption, without concealment, in general: Medicines for heat diseases should be taken promptly; medicines for cold diseases should be taken in conjunction with the disease; medicines for consumption should emphasize strengthening the body and prolonging life; mixed diseases should change the treatment plan as needed. The four, horse, whip, friend, and changing the plan, should each be combined with the diseases of the organs for diagnosis. The medicines for the four pairs and eight branches of consumption, although only roughly described, should be understood separately through rational analysis. The medicines for epidemics and swellings should be small in number and large in volume. If understood in this way, the patient can be freed from the disease. The doctor himself can also gain fame and wealth. This is the teaching of the King of Medicine, Yuthok Yonten Gonpo.
