etc. Although it may be said that they exist, in the ultimate truth, without relying on it, it will not become the only one. Even if it exists, it will not be established as such, because it has been determined by valid reasoning. Therefore, these two will never be in a situation where one does not exist and the other does. If both are equal in strength and true, then will things not become emptiness? Neither of them is established by its own nature, and the two objects are different in meaning. The nature of appearance, because it is emptiness, how can it not be emptiness? Because the appearance of both is the same, it is established as emptiness, and if there is no appearance, how will emptiness be known? Therefore, the two are not contradictory, but appear as cause and effect to each other, and if one is certain that one exists, the other also exists, then there will never be separation, or one does not pervade the other, because there is not, so no matter how it is measured, it is true. By knowing appearance as emptiness, one knows that appearance is not true. Even if one knows emptiness as appearance, one will not know that emptiness is truly existent. Therefore, when one sees that there is no separation, one will never return to truth again. The reality of whatever appears, because it is emptiness, there is no separation. Beyond abandoning appearance, emptiness will not be established independently. Therefore, as long as one practices alternately, practicing the two truths is wisdom. In this time of dualistic samsara, because of the movement of mind and mental factors, wisdom will not appear, therefore, one should accept the two stainless wisdoms of investigation without acceptance or rejection. If one of them is incomplete, then the wisdom of union arising from these two will certainly not arise, just as fire will not arise without a rubbing stick or rubbing pad. Therefore, method and emptiness, if separated, are not the correct path, because the Buddhas and lineage holders have said so. Abandoning these two causes, there is no other way to generate great wisdom. The nature of wisdom itself, because it transcends thought and speech, can only be represented by symbolic methods and words, and cannot be truly indicated. Therefore, in mantra, it is called the power of words. In the Vajra Essence Tantra and others, it is indicated through the door of words and methods. This is the wisdom that transcends the world. In this way, the tenets of the Middle Way of the two truths, which do not rely on others and cannot be grasped, are explained. The result of observing according to the principles of the two truths is that union can be established.

Therefore, when establishing the two truths, appearance and emptiness, as what is to be negated and blocked, are shown in a manner of alternating establishment. That is the very wisdom of the resultant union, which is shown in the tantras with many names. Therefore, all Madhyamaka schools establish themselves through the manner of the two truths. Without relying on the two truths, one cannot comprehend the union. Whatever the Victorious Ones have spoken also truly relies on the two truths. Therefore, that Madhyamaka with its own acceptance of each of the two truths, which is the imputation of the name of the result onto the cause, is the lesser Madhyamaka of alternating establishment. The analysis of the aggregates is emptiness itself, merely a non-affirming negation that cuts off what is to be negated. Relative to that, the acceptance of what is called "non-existence" is also existence. How does that Madhyamaka of the cause or path accept the two truths? Both are its own tenets, not making the ultimate the own tenet and pushing the conventional onto others. If so, one's own tenet, the ultimate truth, would become merely the ultimate, and then all appearances of the ground, path, and result would be merely mistaken things to be abandoned. Thus, slandering and reaching the end, only the empty realm free from obscurations would remain, wanting to be without the two knowledges, etc., like the nirvana without remainder of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers on their own paths. Here too, like the extinction of a lamp, because there is no difference in meaning, slandering that the realm of union does not exist, sentient beings who are like the sky are thieves of the teachings of Shakyamuni, and the Victorious Ones have said that they are destroyers of the sacred Dharma. It can also be determined by reason that such a system is the way of slandering existence as non-existence. Be certain that the vajra fire can destroy the mountain of wrong views. Therefore, in all the Madhyamaka treatises, the Madhyamaka of wisdom as the cause itself, unless analyzed and established by reason, the union of the result will not be established. Even if established by reason in the manner of the two truths, the true result is established as inseparable, the essence of the causal vehicle. Therefore, those wisdoms, in the manner of alternating establishment, do not abide in the two extremes, and because they transcend the mind, they are Madhyamaka and also great. As long as one does not touch that wisdom in the manner of alternating establishment, it is not the ultimate essence of the intention of all the Victorious Ones, not the ultimate great Madhyamaka. Like fire produced by rubbing a rubbing stick, the union drawn forth by the two truths, the stainless wisdom
