His uncle, Lama Drubchok Pema Dargye, bestowed upon him the name "Mipham Gyatso." From a young age, he possessed all the innate abilities of the Mahayana lineage, such as faith, renunciation, wisdom, and compassion, and he clearly remembered everything from his childhood. From a very young age, he said that there was nothing to think about except for the peaceful and wrathful forms of the Yidam Manjushri and the Dharma protector Gesar. At the age of six or seven, he memorized the definitions of the three vows. He listened to the preliminary knowledge of black and white arithmetic.
