Like the different trees that appear. Even though relying on its four branches. Whoever cultivates the three aspects. They will quickly attain the result. It is said. For example, where fire resides in wood, it will not arise without friction. Similarly, manifest enlightenment also, without learning the yoga of familiarizing oneself with enlightenment, manifesting the clear light in this very life will not occur. Likewise, it is established by its own nature, but still, familiarization is the main thing. If there is no familiarization, what to say of this life? Even if a yogi of the Paramita Vehicle completely familiarizes themselves through the path of seeing and meditation, they will attain enlightenment after three countless eons. Attaining it in this life through the Mantra path is a special feature. Therefore, the clear light, the nature of mind, does not arise from causes and conditions, but is established by its own nature. However, obscured by adventitious stains, it does not appear to its own face. If a yogi familiarizes themselves with yoga, the adventitious stains will be removed. Then, the self-nature of that Dharma nature will become clear. Just that, it does not become impermanent because it arose from causes. Removing the stains is its cause, but it is not the cause of clarification, just as a lamp illuminates objects. Nagarjuna said so. After explaining the third root, the meaning is: examining the vessel and dedicating the merit. First, among the five types of individuals who are vessels for this teaching, the first is like sandalwood, which refers to those with deceitful minds, laziness, those who say to the lama, "This is what I know myself, not his kindness," and slander them, those who have not properly received empowerment but boast that they have received empowerment and become arrogant, those with low intelligence and timid minds who are discouraged thinking that even the omniscient cannot truly attain it, and those who have not abandoned afflictions and see the lama's faults instead of seeing their qualities. Explaining it again in detail, wanting to quickly attain the reality of the path of liberation from the lama without making offerings and service, and even if the lama advises, "You are not speaking truthfully," they become angry, argue, or leave. When seeing the lama in the assembly, they turn their backs, pretending not to rely on the lama. Then, when they are alone, they prostrate to the lama, that's how it is.

A disciple who becomes as bad as me, like sandalwood, even if he is one's own disciple, should be completely abandoned like others who are not disciples, even if he is born from the best of human lineages, the royal lineage and the Brahmin lineage. Knowing this constantly and forever, do not keep him by your side. The second type of person, like a precious jewel, is one who possesses excellent qualities such as morality, understands the meaning of what is to be known through hearing, etc., and is diligent in virtuous Dharma, and also respects the lama, viewing him as equal to the Buddha. He understands the Buddha's teachings, the sutras and tantras, and has great faith in the Buddha's teachings, and is very devoted, so he is a suitable vessel, therefore the lama should bestow grace upon him. The third type of person, like an উৎপལ་ flower, is one who has heard many tantras of mantra, and it is also said in the White Lotus Sutra: Although he is well-versed in the teachings of the three pitakas, but because his service to the lama is insufficient, he has not received the transmission of profound instructions, such a person has no power even to accomplish what is beneficial to himself, because the instructions have only spoken words to him, he only speaks them verbally, or only has the reputation of a treatise to show to others, although he only speaks of the reputation of a treatise, and obtains the reputation of a treatise. But merely hearing many treatises from the mouth is only a cause of fatigue, because the essence of the meaning is empty, therefore this person, apart from arguing, has not obtained the taste of meditation. The fourth type of person, like a white lotus, is one who has become fortunate due to the power of karma, and has received the instructions, but if someone's intelligence is not foolish, and is able to combine the meaning with this and that. In the commentary on Nagarjuna's Awakening it says: Although he has become fortunate and has received the instructions, but if someone lacks innate wisdom, is foolish in intelligence, and is unable to summarize the meanings of what he has heard with the four types of reasoning. He has a mind to benefit others, is proficient in benefiting others, is proficient in the teachings, and lacks the qualities of words, unable to establish arguments, unable to distinguish between right and wrong, etc., such a person will also be despised. It is said that this is because he has karma, so he will be able to obtain it in the next life. Although he is diligent in teaching the Dharma with a mind to benefit others, if he does not have the qualities of words, he will also be despised. Most excellent of all.
