Diligence, joyful delight, extreme pliancy of body and mind, one-pointed concentration of mind, and equanimity free from dullness and agitation—these seven are called the limbs of enlightenment. Enlightenment is nirvana, and the limbs are in accordance with it, becoming a means of accomplishing it. Alternatively, the wisdom that realizes selflessness is the essence of enlightenment, so mindfulness is its nature, mindfulness is its place, diligence is its certainty, joy is its benefit, and the remaining three are limbs free from affliction. Therefore, these seven are a collection of virtues that lead to the attainment of nirvana. Secondly, there are two: teaching and explanation. First, without the wisdom of discriminating dharma, there is no meditation that becomes the cause of supreme liberation, because one must be in equipoise on the meaning realized by wisdom. Without meditation, there is also no path of liberation, because from the equal abiding of the mind, true knowledge arises as it is. Therefore, for any person who possesses both serenity and insight, or tranquility and higher vision, the great ocean of samsara, which is vast and boundless, is easily understood as small and easily dried up like the water in a cow's hoofprint, because the person who possesses serenity and insight has power, so it is not difficult for him to dry up the ocean of samsara. Secondly, there are two: an explanation of the views of the unrecorded, which are contrary to the way of practice, and an explanation of the meaning of dependent origination, which is the antidote to the true reality. First, the four possibilities based on the past extreme: that the self and the world are both permanent and impermanent, or neither. The four possibilities of whether those two have limits or not are based on the future extreme. The four possibilities of whether the Tathagata exists or does not exist after death are based on nirvana, and whether the body and life are the same or different, totaling fourteen unrecorded questions. In the world, those that were well spoken by the supreme teacher, the kinsman of the sun, do not contemplate the reasons for this and that, because it does not pacify the mind, but rather makes the head confused and the spirit weary. Here, "unrecorded" means that these things were asked by outsiders, starting from the permanence of the self, so the difference lies in the self...

Because it was considered that there were no specific prophecies for these questions, and even if "I" was negated, it would not actually change anything, no answers were given to these questions. The second part includes a true description of dependent origination and a praise of its greatness. First, if someone asks how one should think, then due to the ignorance of not understanding selflessness, actions arise. From actions, the seed and the consciousness of rebirth arise. From consciousness, the four names such as feeling and cognition arise, as well as coarse material forms such as congealed matter. From material forms, the six internal sources of birth such as the eye arise. From the sources of birth, the three—root, object, and consciousness—aggregate, thereby producing the six touches. The Buddha said that touch can universally arise. From touch, all kinds of feelings such as happiness and suffering arise. From the basis of feeling, the desire to enter and exit arises. From desire, the actions of running and acquiring for that goal arise. From actions, the existence of the actions of karma arises, and from existence, the birth of the next life arises. If there is birth, then sorrow, disease, old age, the suffering of not getting what one wants, death, fear, lamentation, and displeasure, etc., a very large collection of sufferings, will arise. When ignorance ceases, everything from the cessation of actions to the cessation of birth will occur. When birth ceases, all these sufferings such as sorrow will cease. Second, as it is said, this dependent origination is the most precious and profound meaning among the many things in the vast treasury of the Victorious One's teachings, like the king of wish-fulfilling jewels. Whoever correctly sees this law of dependent origination, he can see with the eye of wisdom the Dharmakaya of the Buddha, that sole Suchness, which is the essence of supreme form. Second is the path of meditation, including: explaining the nature of the path, the eightfold noble path; explaining how it is the path; and three pieces of advice on the main part of the path, which is the wisdom of seeing the four truths. First, what has already been realized on the path of seeing, to completely cut off wrong views, and similarly, to abandon wrong livelihood, to strive to practice the path, the mindfulness of not forgetting, the samadhi of one-pointedness of mind, and the language of teaching the meaning of realization to others, and the edge of completely pure actions such as the noble ones abandoning killing, and teaching the Dharma, etc.
