It is considered as the Dharmadhatu, and it is regarded as the Buddha-nature. By taking that as the object, one practices the Prajnaparamita, and it is considered as the cause of the Dharmakaya, etc. All these establishments have become a path that resembles the transformation of the Mahayana, and it is also stated in the Prajna Sutras and others. Therefore, for the realm of the union of the two truths, one must individually recognize with one's own wisdom the meaning that is devoid of all networks of elaboration. Self-nature purity is called the Dharmadhatu and emptiness, which is the essence of the Dharmakaya that possesses both the characteristics of lineage and purity. This is stated in the Mahayana Sutras and all commentaries. Therefore, there is no choice but to consider this self-existing lineage as unconditioned. Once it is unconditioned, then it is impossible for it to generate other fruits with its own nature and then perish itself. The qualities of the Dharmakaya can only be acknowledged as the result of separation. Thus, in the Ratnagotravibhāga, the great Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis have stated this, and the noble Nagarjuna has also clearly stated it in the Dharmadhatustava. Therefore, following those treatises, our school considers the Dharmadhatu as unconditioned, as the lineage. That Dharmadhatu itself is the reality of all dharmas, its essence is without birth or death, and it abides in the nature of indivisibility of appearance and emptiness, without falling into any side. Like this, the conditioned phenomena that appear to arise and cease, because they do not exist as they appear, the nature of the Dharmadhatu has never been tainted by them. The cause and effect of samsara are pure from the beginning, and with the spontaneous manifestation of luminosity and stainlessness, with this key of non-separation and non-union, one must correctly recognize the true nature of the Tathagatagarbha. Therefore, secondly, stating our own system. The meaning of the first line above is: the ultimate body of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, the Dharmakaya, whose qualities are equal to space. Previously, it was an ordinary person, a sentient being with all bondages, and later it appeared, radiated, or manifested from it, so now we must argue that there is the Tathagatagarbha in the sentient beings' continuum.

Indeed. How does this reasoning establish itself? There are two aspects: common and uncommon. Firstly, if there are sentient beings who manifest the wisdom Dharmakāya, it follows that their minds possess the potential for Buddhahood. This is because it is not appropriate for those who completely lack the potential. As stated in the "Praise of Dharmadhātu": 'If there is the element, then by actions done, one will see Mount Sumeru. If there is no element, even if actions are done, only afflictions will arise.' This is as it is said. Secondly, the way to show that it is established like that. Just as a field is able to grow crops, even though the mind is established as merely the cause for being able to attain Buddhahood, how is the particularly special lineage of the Buddha's qualities, which are inherently present, established? That too is established, because the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are the embodiment of wisdom, the nature of which is thoroughly distinguished by the unconditioned. Because it is not of the nature of the conditioned, which is impermanent, it is established by scripture and reasoning. That is, the scriptural authority is, as it says in the Nirvana Sutra: 'Bhikkhus who are perfectly endowed with morality, if they say that the Tathagata is unconditioned, but say that the Tathagata is conditioned, they have become heretics, and it is easier to die.' And, 'Son of lineage, now look at the Tathagata's eternal body, indestructible body, vajra body, non-flesh body, and Dharmakāya.' And again, 'To utter the words that the Tathagata is impermanent, it is easier to touch this burning pile of wood all over with one's tongue and die. That word should not be listened to.' And also, the mere aspect of negation is not suitable for nirvana, as that sutra also says: 'Emptiness, emptiness, is when one searches and finds nothing at all. To say that there is nothing at all is also present in the naked ascetics, but liberation is not like that.' And, 'Whatever liberation is, that is the uncreated realm, that is the Tathagata.' And, in the Vajracchedika (Diamond Sutra) it also says: 'Whoever sees me in form, whoever seeks me in sound, that person walks a false path and cannot see the Tathagata. The Buddhas contemplate the nature of reality, the guides are the Dharmakāya, the nature of reality is not to be known, therefore they cannot be fully understood.' As exemplified by these and other statements, the definitive meaning sutras.
