The so-called "between" does not refer to this, but rather to remembering its unique aspect in the mind. This is impossible. Abiding is like a thread of jewels, visualizing it as abiding from the tip of the nose to the soles of the feet, and contemplating its benefits, harms, coldness, or warmth to the body. Approaching is that breathing is not merely wind, but is composed of the eight natures of the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, and the four derived substances of color, sound, smell, and taste. Based on this, together with the mind and mental factors, it is the five aggregates. This is approaching. Transforming is to transform the mind focused on the wind, from warmth to the higher levels of the supreme Dharma, and to truly combine the roots of virtue. Completely purifying is entering the path of seeing and the path of cultivation. Some say that transforming is the process from mindfulness to Vajra Samadhi, and completely purifying is knowing the cessation of arising and the unconditioned right view. Therefore, in the commentary it says: Mindfulness of breathing has counting and following, abiding and contemplating, transforming and completely purifying, with six aspects in total. Then, from where does breathing arise? Since it is a part of the body, from where does the mind arise, that is, one should know where the body depends on. If it depends on the desire realm mind, then know it is the place of the desire realm; if it depends on the first to third dhyanas, then know it is its place. Furthermore, the body and mind have particularities, depending on things with cavities and minds, such as wriggling things, etc.; but not for mindless and formless things. When arising from birth and the fourth dhyana, only wind enters; when dying and entering the fourth dhyana, only wind exits. The impure and breathing belong to the category of sentient beings, but are not included by the continuum. It is not taken as the basis of feeling. Among the three arising, arising from equal share is only arising from the same cause, because it connects after cessation, and when the body grows, the wind decreases, it is arising from growth, not from maturation. These two winds are also known by the mind of oneself and the higher level, but the mind of the lower level cannot know these two breaths.

Having realized, how does the mind of the lower realm arise in the body of the higher realm? If one wants to generate the mind of desire, such as the desire of the lower realm, and the mind of conduct between the desire realm and the four dhyanas after obtaining the body of the higher realm, it is believed that these two cannot be realized. It is said that if these two cannot be realized, then what need be said for those with afflictions? Second, the dependent vipassanā has three paths: the path of accumulation, the path of preparation, and the path of directly realizing the truth. The first has two parts: a brief indication in the manner of connection, and a detailed explanation of it. First, in this way, after the dependent śamatha is accomplished, the four applications of mindfulness should be cultivated for the purpose of generating vipassanā. Second, there are five aspects: classification, essence, order, necessity, and actual practice. First, how is it? Because of the complete examination of the two characteristics of self and generality in body, feeling, mind, and dharma. Among them, form being changeable, etc., is the self-characteristic, and all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless, which are the nature of all four, so it is said to be the general characteristic. Therefore, with the wisdom that distinguishes the conventional and ultimate reality of the body, etc., one dwells single-pointedly on its meaning. Second, there are two explanations of the classification of the three mindfulnesses that are real and incidental. First, the classification includes self-nature mindfulness, relational mindfulness, and object mindfulness. The essence of the first is wisdom, and it arises from practice such as hearing, not just from birth. Because this wisdom brings mindfulness closer, the teacher explains that the result is established on the cause. Among them, the inner body, the outer body, and the inner and outer body, the order of observing the body mentioned in the sutra is: one's own body, the outer vessel, and the body of other continuums. Outer feelings, etc., are feelings, etc., that are focused on the outer, etc. Observing the body is vipassanā, and dwelling is śamatha. There are other explanations for the inner and outer body. Second, the other two mindfulnesses are: the mind and mental factors that are in accordance with that wisdom are relational mindfulness, and the objects of the previous two are also the objects of the four bodies, etc.
