The four investigations of where to obtain. First, if it is said that there are four fruits of a renunciate, what is a renunciate? What is conduct? What is fruit? A renunciate is a noble person whose continuum has permanently pacified all kinds of afflictions. The stainless, uninterrupted path that permanently pacifies afflictions is the conduct of a renunciate. The path of liberation is the fruit. If those conditioned and unconditioned fruits are distinguished one by one, there are eighty-nine. What are they? There are eight paths of liberation from the three realms to be abandoned by seeing, and eighty-one to be abandoned by meditation, totaling eighty-nine when seeing and meditation are combined. Thus, there are eighty-nine paths of liberation, and also eighty-nine uninterrupted paths, along with eighty-nine cessations of what is to be abandoned. Therefore, the eighty-nine uninterrupted paths are the conduct of a renunciate, and the eighty-nine paths of liberation are the conditioned fruit of the conduct of a renunciate, like a cause that is similar to the result. It is said: "Whatever is born from the power of what, that fruit arises from the action of a person." Thus, it is the similar cause and the resulting effect of the uninterrupted path. The eighty-nine cessations of what is to be abandoned are the unconditioned fruit of the conduct of a renunciate. It is also asserted that it is the resulting effect because it is obtained by the uninterrupted path. Second, although there are many fruits, if they are collected, the reason why the four fruits are established in the sutras is because of the five aspects of causes and conditions. What are they? When each fruit, such as the stream-enterer, is established, it is because the previous path that was entered is abandoned, the path of abiding in a fruit other than that is obtained, one attainment of the total exhaustion of what is to be abandoned is obtained, the eight knowledges of the Dharma-follower are fully obtained, and the sixteen aspects of the wisdom of impermanence, etc., are fully obtained. Among them, the total abandonment is that one obtains one stainless liberation of abandoning each abandonment and totaling all of them. For example, in the first fruit, one obtains one total exhaustion of what is to be abandoned by seeing, and in the second fruit, one obtains one total exhaustion of what is to be abandoned by seeing and the six to be abandoned by meditation in the desire realm, and so on. The first entrant does not have all five causes and conditions, and although the latter three have the latter two causes and conditions, they do not have the former three, as asserted by the Vaibhashikas. Some say that the first fruit is two

There is no summing up of abandonment on the ground. Although it is said that abandonment is summed up from beyond the realm, it is said that there is no beyond the realm. But that is the way to sum up complete knowledge, not this. If only the uncontaminated path is the conduct of a renunciate, then it is possible to obtain the two intermediate fruits by the worldly path that is preceded by detachment from desire. How can these be the fruits of the conduct of a renunciate? Answer: The fruit of the two intermediate fruits obtained by the noble one through worldly meditation is not only contaminated, but also mixed with the attainment of the uncontaminated path of seeing. And because it holds the uncontaminated attainment that includes the two intermediate fruits as one, it is the fruit of the conduct of a renunciate. Moreover, the two intermediate fruits are also different from those obtained by children. The uncontaminated obtained by the path of seeing before cannot be mixed and placed there. Because it is said that the noble one has two kinds of detachment attainments, the attainment of uncontaminated also arises from the part of the path of meditation itself. By the power of detachment attainment uncontaminated, it will not be completely lost. The uncontaminated attainment produced by the worldly path exists now, and by the power of the eight noble paths, it will be obtained in the future. Therefore, even if the conditioned is made the fruit of the conduct of a renunciate, there is no contradiction. Third, it is divided into direct statement and, as an aside, the view that the path of seeing is a wheel of Dharma from that distinction. First, the conduct of a renunciate, whether it is the uninterrupted path or the conditioned uncontaminated liberation, is Brahma because it has abandoned many sinful and unwholesome dharmas, and it is also the conduct of Brahma because it is the uncontaminated path that abandons afflictions. As it is said in the Shakra Sutra: The Blessed One is also called Brahma, and is also called peaceful and cool. That is also the wheel of Brahma, because it is similar to the wheel, and also because it is turned by the Brahma Blessed One. Second, the wheel of Dharma there is the path of seeing, because it runs fast, and so on, abandoning, entering, making the unvictorious victorious, making the victorious abide, increasing and decreasing, these are similar to the wheel jewel. Among them, the fifteen moments of the path of seeing are uninterrupted one after another.
