The four inversions are categorized, and the reason why only these are established as inversions is because they are completely attached to the object of focus as inverted, and because they must be understood, and because they fully possess the three reasons for superimposition. That is, for those established as inversions with three reasons, apart from the three views, inversions are not taught for other subtle details, because these three are not fully possessed. For example, half of the extreme view is the view of annihilation and slander, so there is no superimposition; for those who are slightly tolerant of improper behavior, there is also attachment, so it is not completely inverted; for other afflictions, the necessity of understanding is not complete. The four inversions and the corresponding four minds, and the four perceptions, are due to the power of the companions. Then, why are there no feelings of inversion, etc.? Some say it is because they are not prevalent in the world, but I think it is because of the main reason. All these inversions, the Vaibhashikas consider them to be the same as the nature of views and corresponding factors, so they are only abandoned on the path of seeing. Other schools say that even for stream-enterers, desire for the desire realm arises, and if there were no inversions, it should not arise, so there are also those abandoned on the path of cultivation. The Vaibhashikas say that the arising of desire in noble ones is like a fire wheel, only a momentary confusion, that is not an inversion. Second, the classification of pride, and the explanation of what abandons it. First, not only are there classifications of views, but pride also has seven classifications from the perspective of the object of focus: Considering oneself superior to those who are smaller than oneself, or considering oneself equal to those who are equal to oneself, this is pride with conceit; considering oneself superior and equal to those who are equal to oneself, this is excessive pride; considering oneself superior even to those who are superior to oneself, this is pride above pride; generating pride in the aggregates of appropriation as self and self-belonging, this is pride that thinks "I am"; for the qualities of contaminated and uncontaminated that rely on meditation, claiming to have attained what has not been attained, this is super-pride; considering oneself slightly inferior to those who are extremely superior to oneself, this is slight pride with conceit; considering things that are not qualities, such as bravery in killing, as qualities and being conceited, this is perverse pride. Also, in the "Entering Wisdom" it says: Relying on others and claiming to be established, that is, focusing on the inferior and thinking oneself is superior. For those who are equal, thinking oneself is equal. Compared to the superior, thinking oneself is inferior. Relying on oneself and claiming to establish others. Focusing on the superior.

Therefore, I am superior to others. With regard to equals, I am equal to others. With regard to inferiors, I am inferior to others. Being arrogant, presuming to negate others. With regard to equals, I am not superior to others. With regard to inferiors, I am not equal to others. With regard to superiors, I am not inferior to others. Thus, the nine aspects of pride are explained. The pride based on views, excessive pride, and excessive pride of pride explained here are grouped into three: first, the view of self arises with the thought "I am," and then pride arises, so it is called pride based on views. Thus, among the nine prides, the second, fifth, and seventh are grouped into pride, the third, fourth, and ninth are grouped into excessive pride of pride, and the first, sixth, and eighth are excessive pride. How is the thought "I am not inferior to others" pride? In this excellent group, I am not inferior, I am also excellent, this is complacency, like a person with a good appearance among the gods. Second, it is divided into general, specific, and incidental three. First, all those seven prides are exhausted by the path of seeing that is imputed and the path of cultivation that is innate, or according to the Vaibhashikas, what is aimed at by what is abandoned by seeing is abandoned by seeing, and what is aimed at by what is abandoned by cultivation is abandoned by cultivation. Second, specifically explaining what is abandoned by cultivation. If the noble ones use whatever is not abandoned by cultivation, it is not certain. Faith and other contaminated dharmas, sleep, and the painful faculties such as the eye faculty, although not abandoned, are used. What is to be abandoned by cultivation is killing and the seven abandonments of body and speech, which are aroused by the afflictions that are completely bound, because the dharma to be abandoned by cultivation only takes form as its object. These are like a person whose waist has been cut off because he has abandoned the views that arouse them, and even if they are not abandoned, they will not be used. If you say that the view of the perishable should also become what is to be abandoned by cultivation, that is not reasonable. Because it also takes what is to be abandoned by cultivation as its object, but it does not only take it as its object. Similarly, attachment to destruction and attachment to birth are also what is to be abandoned by cultivation. Among them, the attachment to destruction, which thinks of the destruction of the self of the three realms, does not arise in the noble ones, because they have abandoned wrong views. The attachment to birth, which thinks that I will be born as the root, etc., does not arise, because they have abandoned the permanent self.
