It exists if you hold it; it doesn't exist if you don't hold it. The Pratimoksha vow is not maintained by following distraction and mindlessness. Second, what is meant by the 'vow of abandonment'? It refers to the samadhi and the undefiled vow that arise in the nine uninterrupted paths. So, is it all uninterrupted paths? No, the initial preparatory stage of the powerless is called the vow of abandonment, because it abandons unchaste conduct and its motivating defilements. Regarding whether it is a samadhi vow and an abandonment vow, there are four possibilities: First, it is a samadhi vow but not an abandonment vow, the defiled samadhi vow other than the uninterrupted path of the powerless. Second, it is the undefiled vow of the uninterrupted path of the preparatory stage. Both are the samadhi vow of the uninterrupted path of the powerless. Neither is the undefiled vow other than that, other than the path of the powerless. Likewise, the four possibilities regarding the undefiled abandonment vow should also be understood. Third, again, in the Pratimoksha it says: 'The discipline of the body is good, the discipline of speech is good, the discipline of mind is good, discipline in all is good.' And in the Sutra of the Heap of Discipline it says: 'Whoever dwells restrained by the discipline of the eye faculty.' So, are the discipline of mind and faculties non-revealing forms? No, falling and its antidote, mindfulness, and the unforgotten thought of renunciation, these two are the discipline of mind and faculties, because they abandon the misdeeds of the mind and the enjoyment of objects by the faculties. Second, regarding the common explanation of these three, there are four aspects: how they are possessed, how they are obtained, how they are relinquished, and the basis. First, there are two aspects: actual and incidental. First, there are two aspects: actual non-revealing form and how revealing form is possessed. First, there are four incidental aspects of how the Pratimoksha, non-vow samadhi, and undefiled are possessed in between. First, one who abides in the Pratimoksha always possesses the non-revealing forms of the present as long as they have not been relinquished by the cause of relinquishment, and also possesses the attainment of past vows from the first moment onwards. Moreover, since the Pratimoksha vow does not follow the mind, it is interrupted by the cause of relinquishment, and since the future attainment has not yet occurred, it only possesses the present of the first moment.

It is said to possess. Second, it should be understood that abiding in non-restraint is similar to that of restraint. Third, those who possess meditative absorption restraint, not only in the present, but also always possess the past that is interrupted by the cause of abandonment, and also the future restraint that is not interrupted. Since meditative absorption restraint follows the mind, in the first moment, one also obtains other lives, and the past meditative absorption restraint abandoned here is obtained, but not including those gathered by the components of ascertainment. Thus it is explained. Saying that the past and future are possessed is his own tenet. The noble one's uncontaminated restraint, initially at the time of the forbearance of the suffering dharma, does not possess the attainment of the past, because the uncontaminated path has not been previously generated. Others should be understood to be similar to meditative absorption restraint. That is in terms of the past and future. In terms of the present, those who are absorbed in contaminated meditative absorption and those who abide in the noble path, when they are in equipoise, both the meditative absorption and uncontaminated restraint possess the present, but not when they arise from equipoise, because those present ones follow the mind of equipoise. The attainment of the past and future is possessed when one is not in equipoise and until the cause of abandonment arises, this is the tenet. Fourth, there are two types of possession: general possession and specific possession for those with and without restraint. First, for those who abide in intermediate restraint, if there is a non-manifestation, then in the first moment, one possesses the present or intermediate, and until it is abandoned, thereafter, one possesses both the past and present. Second, do those who abide in non-restraint possess intermediate virtuous non-manifestations, and do those who abide in restraint possess intermediate non-virtuous manifestations? The answer is yes. For example, butchers and others who abide in non-restraint also possess the power of extreme joy, and perform prostrations and so on, and those who possess individual liberation also possess the power of intense afflictions, and kill living beings, steal, and so on, and until then, they possess virtuous and non-virtuous non-manifestations. Second, regarding the manner of possessing manifestations, there are two types: the actual manner of possessing bodily and verbal manifestations, and the implied meaning. First, bodily and verbal manifestations are: for all those who abide in restraint, non-restraint, and intermediate states, those who actually create manifestations possess the present, and until the creation is abandoned by the cause of abandonment, from the first moment onwards, the past
