The Bodhisattva's, causing other sentient beings to obtain the desirable result of happiness in the next world or future lives, is the thought of happiness; desiring to engage in virtue without afflictions in this life is the thought of benefit; ultimately desiring to attain Nirvana with or without remainder, as mentioned before, is also the thought of benefit and happiness. Wishing to place them in happiness is the superior intention of happiness, and wishing to make them free from afflictions is the superior intention of benefit. In short, wishing for temporary and ultimate benefit and happiness for all sentient beings is called superior intention. The classification of superior intention is as follows: In the stage of aspiration and practice, because the nature of reality is not directly realized, and there is attachment to the apprehended and apprehender that are to be abandoned by seeing, it is called impure superior intention. From the first to the seventh bhumi, it is called pure superior intention. In the three pure bhumis of non-retrogression, it is called supremely pure superior intention. Bodhisattvas desire such superior intention for sentient beings. The reason why the eighth bhumi and so on are called the bhumi of non-retrogression is that once the eighth bhumi is attained, it is impossible to regress to a state characterized by effort. Thus, from the perspective of sentient beings, there are two types: the superior intention of benefit and the superior intention of happiness. From the perspective of one's own continuum, there are three types: impure, pure, and supremely pure, making a total of five types of superior intention. Relying on superior intention to gather sentient beings is the function of superior intention. That is, to completely gather through aspiration, in the stage of aspiration and practice, generating the aspiration to place all sentient beings in the realm of Nirvana, and making the aspiration to completely gather all sentient beings. From the attainment of the first bhumi onwards, one obtains an equal mind towards oneself and all sentient beings, therefore, the holding of completely gathering with an equal mind, and completely gathering by becoming the master, that is, like a Chakravartin king becoming the master of a place, having power, benefiting sentient beings with wealth, and placing them in the ten virtuous actions, and completely gathering them, and so on. Completely gathering by leading the assembly, that is, becoming the teacher and abbot of the assembly, gathering the collective of disciples through teaching the Dharma, thereby taking care of sentient beings.

There are four kinds of bondage in total. Bodhisattvas have four causes for taking birth: The birth of intelligent bodhisattvas, who abide on the ground of adhimukticaryābhūmi, mostly arises from the cause of karma. Because they have not yet gained mastery over their minds, they are not necessarily born as they think and wish. Sometimes they are born as they wish, but mainly through the power of accumulating merit, they are born in places that can benefit themselves and others. In addition, those who are born by the power of aspiration are the bodhisattvas who have entered the first and second bhumis. By the power of aspiration, they are born as they have wished in any place where they can benefit sentient beings, such as gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hells. For example, during times of great famine, in order to eliminate the hunger and thirst of sentient beings, they manifest as bodies such as fish and elephants, and satisfy sentient beings with their own flesh. Or, during the intermediate kalpa of disease, in order to eliminate the diseases of those beings, they manifest as the bodies of beings who can cure diseases, and liberate them from diseases by eating their flesh. Or they become accomplished mantra practitioners, and become great doctors, pacifying the various diseases of sentient beings, etc., manifesting various kinds of births. As stated in the *Tathāgatācintyaguhyanirdeśa Sūtra* and others. Bodhisattvas from the third to the seventh bhumis take birth through samadhi. Because their mind's samadhi is very easy to use, even if they have attained the four dhyanas, they will not be born in the form realm as a result, but will be born in the desire realm. Wherever they want to be born, they take birth through samadhi. The bodhisattvas who abide on the three bhumis of the eighth, ninth, and tenth bhumis have autonomy over showing what kind of birth they will take in any place, so they are considered to be born by the power of mastery. They also show manifestations such as descending from Tushita to the womb, and show various kinds of births. Thus, in the *Ten Bhumi Sutra*, when explaining the eighth bhumi, it says: He has so thoroughly attained the wisdom of realizing the body that for countless kalpas
