If moments are not produced, and pots etc. remain still and perform actions such as pouring water, and the senses such as the eyes do not move from their previous state, thereby producing eye consciousness etc., it is unreasonable for the cause to be unmoved and the effect to newly produce movement. Because you have admitted that the cause of these effects is unmoved, how is this different from a horse staying here while the person riding it goes to another place? The wick of a lamp is also repeatedly soaked with oil, consumed by the flame, gradually exhausted and extinguished, and when the oil is exhausted, the lamp dies and the wick turns to ashes. If the wick had no arising and ceasing, but could produce a flame, then the wick would never be extinguished. The flame would also never be extinguished, but it is not so, so both cause and effect are momentary. Similarly, all actions performed by pillars, pots etc., and the arising of sense consciousness from the senses, all are like a lamp, know that both cause and effect are momentary. They said, "If all conditioned phenomena are momentary, then why can't worldly people, like with lamps etc., completely determine that they are impermanent?" The answer is: The eye of worldly people cannot completely determine momentariness, not because there is a difference between momentary and non-momentary conditioned phenomena. Lightning, hail, clouds, lamps and flowing water etc., do not last long before disappearing, and even when they appear, they appear in different ways, so it is easy to recognize their impermanence through moments. But pillars, pots, rocky mountains and diamonds etc., even though they are momentary, as long as similar types continue without interruption, they become the cause of illusion, producing the inverted notion of permanence, but things are not non-momentary, but permanently existing, which is never possible. Beings with little intelligence, who are controlled by the cause of illusion, have a distorted view that does not conform to the reality of things, and cling to conditioned phenomena as being pure, pleasant, permanent and self. Just as someone with jaundice sees a conch shell as yellow, when a torch is spun at night, it looks like a wheel, and in the dimness, because the eyes cannot see clearly, a rope is mistaken for a snake.
