It is not the case that saying a person with afflictions is substantially existent. Likewise, for those who possess the qualities of purification, they are called persons with purification. For those who abide in the stream of defilement, there are also many distinctions, such as abiding in small, medium, and large defilements. Therefore, this person is called having small attachment, and similarly, they are spoken of with the terms medium and large. Likewise, with distinctions of afflictions such as hatred, they are shown as that and that person. Similarly, depending on abiding in small, medium, and large purification, they are called persons who have attained small grounds and paths, and so on. For those who practice exclusively in either virtue or non-virtue, they are called persons who are cut off in that and that direction. Likewise, there are persons who enter into defilement and purification, persons who possess them, persons who do not possess them, those with sharp or dull faculties, persons who carry the burden of suffering and its origin, persons who have obtained cessation through the path and have abandoned the burden, persons who abide in the accumulation path and so on, those with faith practice, ordinary beings, hearers, solitary realizers, bodhisattvas, buddhas, and distinctions within them, such as entering the four fruits and attaining the first ground, etc. If these various kinds of persons are not indicated, the distinctions of this and that dharma cannot be distinguished. Therefore, it should be understood that the name of a person is indicated in relation to the name of the dharma that distinguishes the different continuums of the five aggregates, with consciousness being the primary one. Thus, if the Blessed One indicates various kinds of persons with names, and by that name indicates that the person is substantially existent, then that statement would generate the view of self. The view of self does not need to be generated, because all sentient beings inherently possess the view of self. Although the view of self has existed since beginningless time, it is not the case that the person is shown to be substantially existent for the sake of familiarizing oneself with the self, thinking that if one focuses on and meditates on the self for the sake of purifying that self, one will see the self and be liberated. Because familiarizing oneself with the self is beginningless, even if those in samsara are familiar with it for so long, they will not be liberated by it. Moreover, it is the very root that binds them to samsara. Therefore, the Blessed One's person

What is indicated by the name "I" is for the sake of viewing "I" as truly existent and cultivating "I," which is not reasonable. Why would one say that the person is truly existent? Because there is no need. If clinging to "I" is something that the Buddha wants to generate in sentient beings, then would that view of "I" liberate everyone effortlessly? If it is not to be generated, but is what the Buddha has prohibited, then there is no liberation for those who have a view of "I," and there is no other possibility besides these two. If there must be a truly existent thing called a person or "I," then all sentient beings who view it that way would not be mistaken, and they would be liberated from the beginning without having to strive on the path. However, since no one is liberated until they realize the absence of self, viewing "I" as truly existent is a reversed bond, so it should be refuted and not established and generated. If "I" were inherently existent, then no one could refute it through the path of reasoning. For that unrefuted "I," no one could turn away from clinging to "I." As long as there is clinging to "I," there will be attachment to the side of clinging to "I" and "mine," and hatred towards the other side, and there will be no way to stop all the afflictions. Due to the power of afflictions, karma is accumulated, and one will constantly revolve in the three realms of samsara like a waterwheel, and there will never be liberation from it. Therefore, it is impossible for the Tathagata to have taught that the person is truly existent. The Buddha's teachings show the method of liberation from samsara, so from the root of the view, through the perspective of view, the teaching of the two selflessnesses surpasses all the views of worldly people and non-Buddhists. Therefore, it should be known that in his scriptures, the teaching that the person or "I" is truly existent is in no way present. The conclusion of the chapter is: Thus, from having shame and embarrassment to explaining the selflessness of the person, the qualities of cultivating the dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, those Bodhisattvas who are always endowed with these qualities do not abandon their own benefit, nor do they abandon the perfection of realization. And through methods such as establishing sentient beings in such abandonment and realization, they also accomplish the benefit of others. This is the nineteenth chapter, which corresponds to the aspects of enlightenment, from the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras.
