If it is thought that the cause that produces the first moment will make it abide in that way, that is not correct. Because the cause that produces the first moment has already ceased after producing it, so it is impossible to make it abide in multiple moments. Because there is no non-momentary thing, this is like saying "the son of Mo Xia Mu was abandoned." If a cause can produce a non-momentary thing, then it should also be able to produce a permanent thing, but this is very unreasonable and not allowed. If the first moment is produced by a cause and abides for a while, and then itself disintegrates, there is no other cause, but the initial cause made it so, this idea is also the same. If it is thought that there is no other cause for abiding for a while and ultimately disintegrating, then why not think that the first moment also arises without a cause? If it is not admitted because the first moment arising without a cause contradicts direct perception, then the meaning of "because it arises from a cause" is that, having arisen in this way, its continuity abides, which is also established because it arises from the cause of the preceding moments, and no other cause is found besides that. Others say that the cause that produces all things, after producing and having arisen, does not need to arise again and again, but abides in the state of having arisen for a certain period of time, and during this period there is no arising and disintegration of other moments, and no other cause is needed. To this, the unreasonable contradictions are explained: If things do not disintegrate immediately after arising, but disintegrate after a while, then, is the thing itself abiding without disintegrating in a moment and then disintegrating later, or is it disintegrating in a moment and then ceasing after a while? If it is the former, the thing does not disintegrate in a moment and abides, then, the nature of abiding does not have the nature of disintegration, so the abiding thing will not disintegrate later, but will abide constantly. If it has the nature of disintegration, then the nature of disintegration does not have the nature of permanence and long-term abiding, so it will begin to disintegrate from the first moment, and it is impossible to abide without disintegrating for a while, so it is contradictory. Also, if a thing arises and abides for a certain period of time and then begins to disintegrate, then please tell me what is the cause of disintegration?

Now it is needed. If it is said that the cause of arising is that itself, then it is contradictory. Because arising is the existence of things, and cessation is the non-existence of things, if one cause produces both arising and cessation, then that cause cannot simultaneously do the two contradictory things of making things exist and making them not exist. Just as light and darkness, cold and warmth, cannot be produced by one cause. The so-called "contradictory reason" is that things do not remain until the second moment after they arise, but have the nature of destruction. If they arise and remain constant for a long time, then it contradicts both scripture and reason. How does it contradict? As the Bhagavan's teachings say, "Conditioned things are like illusions arising from causes and conditions, they are of the nature of arising and ceasing, therefore they are destructible; they do not remain longer than a moment after arising, therefore they are temporary; they are destroyed immediately after arising, therefore they exist for a short time." This contradicts the above statement. Reason also contradicts yogic direct perception. When yogis practice and contemplate the four noble truths, they see that all conditioned things are characterized by momentary arising and ceasing, thereby generating disgust, abandoning attachment, attaining liberation, and realizing Nirvana. If they do not see it that way, they will not generate disgust and detachment, nor will they attain liberation. For example, ordinary worldly people know that people will die and be impermanent at the time of death, thereby generating disgust, but before that, they will generate the idea that things will continue to exist, so no one can generate disgust for all conditioned things and become detached. The so-called "because one's own self does not remain" is to state the contradiction by inference. If conditioned things do not immediately perish after arising, but continue for a period of time, then do conditioned things remain by their own power, or do they remain by the power of other causes and conditions? If it is the former, then they should remain constant, but in reality, there is not a single conditioned thing that can completely last until the end, because its nature is characterized by momentary destruction, and the continuum will also be destroyed when it encounters conditions. If it is by the power of other causes and conditions, then it is impossible to determine with valid cognition what is the cause that makes it remain. Because one's own self cannot continue to the second moment after it is established.
