It has the ability to produce fruit, and this aspiration can accomplish all things in the future. The classifications of aspirations are: The aspirations of Bodhisattvas in the stage of faith and practice are diverse, because at that time they have not yet realized the nature of pervading the entire realm of Dharma, and upon seeing the faults of Samsara, they wish to pacify this and that, and focusing on merits, they wish to accomplish this and that. Therefore, they make aspirations such as "In the future, for the benefit of sentient beings, I will become like this and that," etc. The aspirations they make are different and dissimilar. From the time of entering the first Bhumi, the aspirations are vast in order to manifest the ten great aspirations. From then until the attainment of ultimate great Bodhi, on the second Bhumi and the remaining Bhumis, the aspirations become increasingly vast, increasingly excellent, and increasingly pure. The function of aspirations is: Relying on aspirations, Bodhisattvas can accomplish the benefit of themselves and others. Bodhisattvas with the power of merit, through the power of their aspirations, accomplish the benefit of themselves and others with immeasurable bodies, immeasurable light, and immeasurable miraculous powers. This is difficult to express in words, as stated in the Sutras, and should be understood accordingly. Fourth, explaining the three Samadhis with objects, and explaining the four Dharma summaries that should be known about them. Among them, first, the Samadhi of emptiness, the Samadhi of wishlessness, and the Samadhi of signlessness are explained, because they are the essence of the path. The objects of the three Samadhis are: The two types of selflessness, the selflessness of persons and phenomena that are thoroughly conceptualized, are the objects of the Samadhi of emptiness. The object of the Samadhi of wishlessness is: The dependent arising of other-powered appearances, the five aggregates of clinging that are the dependent, contaminated basis for grasping at the two selves. The object of the Samadhi of signlessness is: That very basis or support for imputing the two selves, which is always by its nature free from the two selves, the perfectly established nature in which all signs are pacified. This should be understood.

Thus, these three samadhis, because of the nature of the three samadhis that hold in this way by focusing on the three objects to be grasped, from the aspect of different objects, the holding samadhi should also be known as three types in this way. Showing the aspects of the three samadhis: The samadhi of emptiness is the aspect of not discriminating into two selves. The samadhi of no aspiration is the aspect of not being attached to the five aggregates of close grasping, because they are impermanent and the place of various sufferings, turning away from them and not aspiring. The samadhi of no sign is the aspect of believing in and greatly rejoicing in the realm where all signs and sufferings are completely pacified, the ultimate truth. The reason for determining the number as three is that the samadhi of emptiness is for fully understanding that the two selves of the completely imputed do not exist from the beginning; the samadhi of no aspiration is for abandoning the impure other-powered, the basis for holding onto the two selves; the samadhi of no sign is for directly realizing the cessation truth of the perfectly established. Thus, the three samadhis such as emptiness are proclaimed for the sake of the three meanings just explained. Secondly, the unequaled teacher, the Buddhas, wishing to greatly benefit sentient beings, the sutra or essential summary that gathers all the meanings of the Dharma as the cause of the three samadhis such as emptiness is four types, namely: All conditioned things are impermanent. All contaminated conditioned things are suffering. All phenomena are without self. Nirvana is peace. Thus, it is taught to the Bodhisattvas. How are these four the cause of samadhi? The two summaries, all conditioned things are impermanent and all conditioned things are suffering, are taught as the very cause of realizing the samadhi of no aspiration, that is, knowing the nature of conditioned things as impermanent and suffering, one does not become attached to and aspire to conditioned things that are like saw teeth and poisonous food, so the samadhi of no aspiration is realized. The summary that shows all phenomena are without self is the samadhi of emptiness.
