And also. Profound correct concentration is cultivated as an antidote to obscurations, with special qualities as described in the chapter on miraculous powers, etc. Secondly, there are three verses that distinguish between calm abiding and insight, such as "abiding correctly," etc. Correctly abiding is relying on the four form realm dhyanas without outflows, because there are no phenomena other than the mind, so the mind is only the mind, and the mind abides in one-pointedness, hence it is calm abiding. Relying on that calm abiding, one knows the meaning of the suchness of all phenomena without error, and non-conceptualization is insight because it skillfully distinguishes all phenomena. Thus, the characteristics of calm abiding and insight in the Mahayana have been briefly shown. The distinction between calm abiding and insight is shown as follows: these two, calm abiding and insight, are all-pervasive for accomplishing qualities and all cultivation, that is, cultivating the aspects of enlightenment, and wanting to attain dhyana and samadhi, and wanting to attain miraculous powers, etc., all of which are indispensable, hence it is called all-pervasive, that is, these two are the main practice of all cultivation. The so-called "one part" is that cultivating the four formless absorptions is mostly calm abiding and less insight, hence it is one part. The first, second, and third dhyanas of the form realm are mostly insight and less calm abiding, so that is also one part or one part. "Not one part" means that calm abiding and insight are combined, without heavy or light parts, and the situation that is not one part is when cultivating the fourth dhyana of the form realm. Cultivating calm abiding and insight with aspiration is considered to be the cause of attaining the first ground. The calm abiding and insight at the time of the first ground is called the very joyful calm abiding and insight, because at that time one realizes the all-pervasiveness of the dharmadhatu. The calm abiding and insight from the second to the sixth grounds is called the stainless calm abiding and insight, because one gradually abandons all signs and attains the signless in the seventh ground. The calm abiding and insight at the time of the seventh ground is called the signless calm abiding and insight, because at that time for various dharmas such as the sutras,

Therefore, they are not regarded as different, but rather everything is contemplated as being without characteristics and of the same taste. When one is on the eighth, ninth, and tenth bhūmis, the practice of śamatha-vipaśyanā is called non-contrived śamatha and vipaśyanā, because one abides in śamatha and vipaśyanā that are effortlessly and spontaneously accomplished. By practicing śamatha-vipaśyanā on those three pure bhūmis, it is called the complete purification of the Buddha-field. The two obscurations together with their habitual tendencies are completely purified, and because one attains the Buddha-bhūmi, it is called complete purification. Thus, the yoga of śamatha and vipaśyanā that relies on the bhūmis and the bhūmis is universally present from adhimukticaryā-bhūmi up to the tenth bhūmi. It accomplishes all the aims of oneself and others, and each lower one accomplishes all the qualities of the higher bhūmi. Third, among the limbs that distinguish the practice, there is skillful means that accomplishes great aims with little effort and without deception, dhāraṇī that does not forget the dharmas previously grasped, aspiration prayers that enable one to obtain future qualities, and the teaching of samādhi and the four vows that completely purify the path. First, the method for completely perfecting all the Buddha-dharmas is non-conceptual wisdom, i.e., the dharmas of the path such as the bhūmis, pāramitās, and bodhipakṣadharmas, and the dharmas of the result such as the powers, fearlessnesses, and sarvākārajñatā, because one does not fixate on any dharma of the path and the result as a characteristic, one will completely perfect them. As it says in the Hundred Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā: “If you want to completely perfect the perfection of generosity, you should train in the perfection of wisdom.” And so on, “Because you want to attain all-knowing wisdom, you should train in the perfection of wisdom.” As it is said. The method for completely ripening beings is the four saṃgrahavastus, because they lift beings out of non-virtuous states and place them in virtuous states. The method for quickly attaining abhijñā and quickly attaining manifest enlightenment is, as it says in the sūtra, all sins should be confessed, all merit should be rejoiced in, and all Buddhas should be entreated.
