Upon first attainment, it is a branch of the benefit of realizing the Dharmadhatu, because a special joy arises in the mind due to it. The three aspects of pliancy, concentration, and equanimity are branches free from afflictions. When body and mind are extremely pliant, being separated from the bad places of affliction obscurations and knowledge obscurations, it is that which makes afflictions not arise, or the place free from afflictions. Concentration is that which, abiding in whatever basis, makes afflictions not arise; that is, when abiding in concentration, it eliminates the near afflictions such as excitement and dullness. Equanimity is the nature free from afflictions; because when abiding naturally in equanimity, there are no afflictions whatsoever. Seventh, the eight noble path branches are: right view, the noble path; similarly, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration, the noble path. Among these, right view is, on the path of seeing, with the wisdom that discriminates the Dharma extremely well, directly realizing the equality of the Dharmadhatu, the selflessness of persons and phenomena, and meditating while focusing on that itself. With right view as the cause, becoming the cause of definitely liberating from the three realms, contemplating higher ethics, mind, and wisdom, and desiring them, and thoughts free from afflictions such as desire, hatred, etc., is right thought. Explaining how one has understood right view and right thought for the benefit of other sentient beings, and abandoning faults of speech such as falsehood, harsh words, divisive speech, and idle chatter, is right speech. Abandoning the three faults such as killing from the aspect of the body, and entering the path of liberation, is right action. Abandoning all wrong livelihood such as flattery and hypocrisy, is right livelihood. Relying on the four, right view, right thought, right action, and right livelihood, through meditation, in order to abandon the two obscurations to be abandoned, constantly meditating on the noble path, is right effort. Not forgetting the meaning of the Dharmas as they have been understood, and appearing clearly in the mind, is right mindfulness.

To single-mindedly and equally abide in the suchness of the realm of reality is right concentration. These eight, when in conduct, should abide in right speech, right action, and right livelihood. When abiding in concentration internally, one should cultivate calm abiding and insight. Among these, right view, right thought, and right effort are aspects of insight. Right view is insight itself, while right thought and right effort are the retinue of insight. Right concentration and right mindfulness are aspects of calm abiding; right concentration is the actual calm abiding, and right mindfulness is the retinue of that calm abiding. These eight limbs of the path are explained. Thereafter, they are shown by two verses beginning with "As it is." After obtaining the first ground, from the second ground onwards, one cultivates the eightfold noble path, which is to realize and cultivate the realm of reality through the gateway of following after having realized the two selflessnesses as they are with the discriminating wisdom of the enlightenment factor. This is right view, that is, how one has truly understood suchness with right view. To establish it as "This is like this" is right thought. How does one establish it as such? The scriptures, such as the Sutras, which are made into treatises explained by names, sentences, and letters, are called the established Dharma, because they reveal the meaning of suchness. Therefore, to understand the meaning of what has been established as it is, and to explain it to others in that way, and to enter into the established scriptural authority without misunderstanding its meaning, is right thought. Speech, action, and livelihood, the three of the three actions are purified, and relying on right effort for two countless eons is to cultivate the antidote to the obscuration of knowledge. Similarly, right mindfulness is cultivated as the antidote to the obscuration of the path. When cultivating the path of calm abiding and insight, if obscurations of the path arise, such as sinking and excitement, then, as explained above, the three aspects of calm, the aspect of grasping, and the aspect of equanimity, are used to clarify those obscurations with the power of mindfulness.
