Being skilled in advancing and retreating at the appropriate time, being skilled in doing well in following and punishing, being pleasing to the king, being able to effortlessly accomplish all conquering of others, and acting according to the command. Just like these examples, when a Bodhisattva attains the first ground, regarding what was not manifestly known in the stage of adhimukti-carya, or what had not overcome the obscurations of manifest knowledge, in order to manifestly know and overcome the obscurations of the path of seeing at the time of the first ground, the mindfulness that does not forget the dharmas practiced in the stage of adhimukti-carya is like a precious wheel that universally employs and overcomes all grounds of a universal monarch. The wisdom of this first ground practitioner that thoroughly distinguishes dharmas destroys all characteristics of apprehending the two selves of dharma and person, just as a precious elephant destroys all armies of opponents. The diligence of this first ground practitioner is that, in order to quickly realize and accomplish all extraordinary qualities such as supernormal cognitions, entering is like a precious horse quickly going to any place one desires. At the time of attaining the first ground, because of manifestly realizing suchness, the joy of the great light of transcendental dharma increasing, the body and mind always increase, so joy is like the light of a precious jewel dispelling darkness. In the path of liberation of the first ground, in order to be liberated or freed from all obscurations of the path of seeing, the body and mind become completely unsuitable and bliss is attained, just as the touch of a precious queen causes joy to arise in a universal monarch. Right concentration is a branch of enlightenment, because qualities such as supernormal cognitions and all desired things are easily attained and come near to arising, so, just as a precious householder perfectly accomplishes all the wealth that the king desires. Equanimity is a branch of enlightenment, at all times, this Bodhisattva of the first ground has no weakness or arrogance in mind, and no afflictions or near afflictions such as attachment and aversion.

Abiding in its own nature as it wishes, it is also obtained later. The wisdom of the pure world does the work of benefiting sentient beings, causing oneself to obtain the qualities of the higher grounds that have not been obtained, causing the faults that have not been abandoned to be abandoned, and also abandoning the lower grounds. In samadhi, the supreme bodhisattva constantly abides, abiding without abiding in anything with non-discriminating wisdom. Moreover, it is said that one constantly abides in the abode of the supreme noble ones. As it appears in the commentary on Blo brtan, "It is constantly supreme because of abiding." Thus, equanimity is like a precious general gathering the four divisions of the army, causing those who are to be destroyed and driven away to be driven away, causing those who are to be gathered and protected to be gathered, and abiding in a direction where there is no harm or injury. Like gathering and driving away the enemy's forces, it is the wisdom of the pure world, because it takes what should be taken and abandons what should be abandoned. Like abiding in a place where there is no harm and one is relaxed, it is non-discriminating wisdom, because it abides in a place where all objects of focus are completely pacified. A bodhisattva who possesses such qualities is like a wheel-turning king, entering into or having power over those qualities, and is always surrounded and endowed with the seven branches of enlightenment, like the seven precious royal possessions. Fourth, the seven branches are condensed into five branches, and this also explains the meaning of the term "branch," namely, the supreme discernment of Dharma is the branch of self-nature, because it is the nature of realizing the essence of enlightenment. Mindfulness is the branch of location, namely, the ultimate mindfulness of the time of the great supreme Dharma, which is the culmination of repeatedly remembering and familiarizing oneself with the Dharmas without forgetting them in the stage of aspiration and conduct, from which all the branches, such as the supreme discernment of Dharma, arise. Third, diligence is the branch of definite emergence, namely, by the power of diligence, one transcends the stage of aspiration and conduct and definitely emerges on the first ground. The mindfulness and diligence of the first ground itself are the mindfulness and diligence of the ultimate fruit of the mindfulness and diligence of aspiration and conduct. Fourth, joy is the ground.
