The way of entering is excellent, meaning that by understanding the meaning of "excellent" for all the following, through the ways of object, attention, and attainment, there is a difference in meditation. Similarly, the way of conformity, the way of entering, the way of complete understanding, the way of arising are excellent, the way of degree or the way of greatness is excellent, and the way of supreme is excellent itself, similarly, the way of meditation and the way of attaining the fruit or complete accomplishment are also different from the former, thus there are differences through fourteen ways. What is the meaning of these? The basis is that the Shravakas' meditation on the four mindfulnesses relies on the three pitakas of the Shravakas, which teach the Shravakas to meditate, while the Bodhisattvas' meditation on the four mindfulnesses relies on the study, contemplation, and meditation of the Mahayana pitaka, therefore it is different in the way of the basis. Similarly, the way of antidote is that the Shravakas meditate on the four: the body is impure, feeling is suffering, mind is impermanent, and all dharmas are without self, as antidotes to the inverted views such as purity. While the Bodhisattvas, through realizing the selflessness of all dharmas in the four dharmas such as the body, meditate on the suchness that is free from all characteristics such as purity and impurity, happiness and unhappiness. Thus, by knowing the nature of the four such as the body to be emptiness, one gradually enters the four noble truths of suffering, origin, cessation, and path, as it is said in the Madhyantavibhaga. The excellence of entering is that the Shravakas meditate on the four mindfulnesses in order to enter the four truths themselves, while the Bodhisattvas meditate in order for both themselves and others to enter, therefore there is a difference. The difference in object is that the Shravakas mainly meditate by focusing on their own body and mind, while the Bodhisattvas meditate by focusing on the body and mind of themselves and all sentient beings, therefore there is a difference. The difference in attention is that the Shravakas attend to the characteristics of the antidotes such as the impurity of the body. The Bodhisattvas attend to without fixating on the characteristics of abandonment and antidote, therefore there is a difference. The difference in attainment is that the Shravakas

The Shravakas practice to separate themselves from the impurity of the body and the suffering of feelings, and the result is only the cessation of the continuum of the aggregates. Bodhisattvas do not practice for the sake of separating from these, nor for the sake of not separating, but because the body and so on are without self-nature, they practice without fixating on either separation or non-separation. Therefore, when they attain the result, they do not separate from the completely pure three bodies of the Buddha, but they attain it by separating from the impure afflictions and the body and so on, which is the difference. The difference of conformity is that the Bodhisattva's mindfulness near-placement practice is in accordance with the six perfections. Because they realize that the four bodies and so on appear like illusions but have no self-nature, they are not attached to the body and enjoyments, or to any external or internal objects, which is in accordance with giving. Because they are not attached to the body and enjoyments, they take and protect pure morality, and from the purity of morality, they abide in patience, which has the four qualities of a renunciate, such as not retaliating when struck. Through the gateway of patience, they accomplish the paramitas, and they initiate diligence without weariness in order to do the work of sentient beings. Abiding in diligence, they cultivate samadhi, which does not distract the mind, and relying on equanimity, they cultivate the wisdom of vipashyana, which understands the general and specific characteristics of all dharmas. In this way, they are in accordance with the six perfections, while the Shravakas only practice one-sided aspects of enlightenment and cannot become accustomed to such six perfections for a long time. The difference of following is that merely abiding in mindfulness on the body and so on is practiced by worldly people and by Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but the practice of Bodhisattvas is more excellent than this. From their own position, they also show worldly people and Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas the way to practice mindfulness in accordance with their respective minds, so they have the difference of following all those to be trained, and the difference of complete knowledge is that Bodhisattvas consider the body to appear like an illusion, but it is not established as such, and feelings are like experiencing pleasure and pain in a dream, but although they are experienced, there is no real self-characteristic object in them, and the nature of mind is completely established as self-
