Furthermore, since there are none, Buddhas are not different in ultimate truth, but differences are established in conventional terms, which is explained by one verse such as "because of different lineages." Some say that if one Buddha manifests enlightenment in one world, then at that time, other Buddhas will not be born or appear in other worlds of the ten directions, so there is only one Buddha in all worlds, who acts through emanations in other worlds. Some say that from beginningless samsara, there is only one Buddha, who alone performs various Buddha activities for the benefit of sentient beings in all Buddha-fields. Some say that even the Buddhas who have attained the ultimate ground are not one, because the Dharmakaya, which has abandoned the concept of self and is free from the two obscurations, also has many differences. The idea that Buddhas are either one or many is an extreme, and both views are incorrect. What is the reason? Because in the world, there are countless sentient beings with the potential to attain Buddhahood, and since the lineages of causes are different, the result cannot be only one Buddha. For example, it cannot be said that in a large pile of grains, only one grain can sprout, and the others cannot. Just as well-prepared food satisfies and benefits anyone, whoever accumulates the two accumulations will have the meaning of attaining Buddhahood. If there were only one Buddha, then the accumulation of the two accumulations by many people to attain Buddhahood would become meaningless, but that is unreasonable, so there is not only one Buddha. When the Buddhas initially generate the mind of enlightenment in unsurpassed Bodhi, they vow, "Having attained great Bodhi, I will place sentient beings in that Bodhi," and this vow is fulfilled in the state of Buddhahood. If no other sentient beings attain Buddhahood other than that one Buddha, then that Buddha has not placed even one sentient being in the state of Buddhahood, so the vow he initially made would not be fulfilled. But that is unreasonable, because the vow made by the Buddhas to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings is fulfilled, so the Buddha is not the only one.

No. The above refutes the assertion that there is only one Buddha in a world system and no other Buddhas in other world systems. It is said that a wheel-turning king and a Buddha do not appear simultaneously in one world system, which refers to one world of four continents. Like the supreme emanation, King Shakya, the sole Buddha, in one three-thousand-great-thousand world system, there are hundreds of millions of worlds of four continents, and it is said in the Compendium of Mahayana that emanations equal to that number appear, simultaneously entering the womb, etc., each appearing as an emanation Buddha. Now, in terms of time, the assertion that there has been only one Buddha since beginningless time is refuted. Because it is impossible to attain enlightenment without accumulating the accumulations of merit and wisdom. And these two accumulations do not arise on their own without another Buddha who bestows prophecy, therefore before the previous Buddhas, there were other Buddhas, just as samsara has no beginning, so too does the Buddha have no beginning, therefore the assertion that there has been only one Buddha since beginningless time is unreasonable, because it is transmitted from one to another, thereby accomplishing many Buddhas. For the reasons stated above, the Buddhas are not limited to one, but are immeasurably many. Even so, when the state of the pure realm, free from the stains of the two obscurations in the dharmadhatu, extremely pure, and without outflows, is attained, there is not the slightest difference in that state, therefore the Buddhas are distinguished or established by the unconditioned, which is endowed with both suchness and purity, therefore from that point of view, there are not many Buddhas either, because all are equal in taste in the dharmadhatu, suchness, without characteristics, and naturally luminous, as previously stated. Secondly, the method for attaining the great enlightenment with the characteristic of non-duality, the self-arisen wisdom, the all-knowing, is the five perfections, and especially the prajnaparamita, which is the most important and purifies the other perfections, therefore the prajnaparamita, which is the cause for attaining the ultimate great wisdom, is explained. The grasped and the grasper.
