Just as a great flood pours down, the amount of water does not increase; similarly, the realm or sphere of the Buddhas, the Suchness that is without outflows, even when countless Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas who have purified their obscurations, and those who have entered Nirvana constantly and unceasingly merge into it, it does not become full or increase. Such is the supreme wonder here. Thus, after explaining the Great Bodhi through ten categories of qualities, next, the Great Bodhi itself, which possesses these qualities, will be explained through six outlines, such as essence. This is divided into two parts: the main text and the detailed explanation of merging. First, it is explained with four verses, such as "The Suchness of all dharmas." The essence of these four verses is to explain the extremely pure Dharmadhatu, so this is explained first. Then, by explaining the four wisdoms, such as the mirror-like wisdom, as it is said in the Sutra of the Holy Buddha Land: "The Buddha Land is condensed by five dharmas, namely, the extremely pure Dharmadhatu, the mirror-like wisdom, the wisdom of equality, the wisdom of discernment, and the wisdom of accomplishment." This treatise also briefly establishes its meaning. That is, it should be understood that the nature of all dharmas, such as conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, and those included in defiled and undefiled phenomena, is emptiness, free from all extremes, which is called Suchness, because it is the unmistaken reality, the true limit, and the ultimate truth. Although there is no difference in the nature of Suchness, it is called dharma through various characteristics. Although there is no difference between the Suchness of Buddhas and sentient beings, the Suchness in the continuum of sentient beings is called defiled Suchness because of the inverted self-appearance and sudden defilements. Since defilements are sudden and can be removed, and the nature of dharma never changes, when the two obscurations, afflictive and cognitive, in the continuum of individual sentient beings are completely purified, the characteristic of the extremely pure Dharmadhatu is called the Bodhi of the Buddha. This shows the transformation of the basis of Suchness. Bodhi

Furthermore, in meditative equipoise, by focusing on the very essence of the Dharma realm, which is completely pure, one attains the inexhaustible power of non-conceptual wisdom. And through subsequent wisdom, by focusing on that non-conceptual wisdom, one attains the inexhaustible and unknowable power. Moreover, subsequent wisdom accurately understands the nature of that non-conceptual wisdom. According to the translation of Lodan's commentary, "focusing on the knowledge of that object" means that subsequent wisdom accurately knows the non-conceptual wisdom that is the transformed basis of the nature of other-powered phenomena, the alaya-vijnana. "Focusing on that" means that non-conceptual wisdom focuses on that Dharma realm. Although the methods of textual commentary differ, the meaning is the same: obtaining the two inexhaustible powers is explained in terms of the two wisdoms of meditative equipoise and subsequent attainment. In short, in the state of Buddhahood, there is no alternation between meditative equipoise and subsequent attainment. Therefore, how one sees with one wisdom is non-conceptual, and how much one sees is omniscient. Thus, these two are the characteristics of obtaining inexhaustible and unknowable power. This is the belief. Thus, since the nature of reality and phenomena are not different, at the time of ultimate transformation, the nature of reality is seen as it is. However, without wavering, one effortlessly and spontaneously knows how much phenomena there are. The self-existent body or Dharma body, which has mastery over these two kinds of knowledge, is the characteristic of great enlightenment. Therefore, this is the nature of great enlightenment. The cause for attaining or manifesting that great enlightenment is emptiness as taught in the Mahayana sutras. Thus, that tathagatagarbha is determined through hearing, thinking, and meditating. In the stage of faith and practice, one cultivates through the accumulation of the two accumulations. Thus, the direct realization of tathagatagarbha, the arising of the first transcendental wisdom, is the attainment of the first bhumi. After that, until the end of the continuum of the ten bhumis, one cultivates through all kinds of skillful means, and thus it truly arises. The fruit of enlightenment is to generate temporary and ultimate benefit and happiness for all limitless sentient beings at all times. Also, however far the boundary of samsara extends, it has inexhaustible fruits. Likewise, karma is all appearances and speech.
