Being able to overcome all the afflictions that exist in the continuum, and becoming the cause of the three kayas, powers, and fearlessnesses of the victorious Buddhas, like petals, flowers, and fruits, hence being the sprout of the victorious ones; being able to subdue the armies of demons and transcend the ground of ignorance and habitual tendencies, hence being the sole hero, endowed with power and skill; due to surpassing all worldly beings, becoming the most extraordinary, hence being the supreme among the noble ones; being able to lead beings immersed in the ocean of samsara to the city of nirvana, hence being the guide; in the ten directions and countless realms, the sound of qualities being widely proclaimed, hence being the great fame or supreme fame; possessing great compassion that never abandons all sentient beings, hence being the compassionate one or possessing compassion; possessing immeasurable roots of virtue such as generosity, hence being the one with great merit; being able to freely control all the perfections of the world and beyond, hence being the powerful one; similarly, being called the one possessing faultless and uncontaminated dharma. Thus, represented by the sixteen well-known lords of names, praised by various names such as fearlessness, hero, steadfastness, and the supreme of sentient beings. Secondly, from the perspective of realizing the cause and effect of enlightenment, in order to praise the qualities that are in accordance with the meaning of the name Bodhisattva, it is divided into two parts: the main text and the classification. First, it is explained in five verses: due to realizing the selflessness of phenomena and persons, hence realizing the goodness of that; due to realizing the accomplishment of great benefit for oneself and others, hence realizing the goodness of great benefit; due to realizing all knowable meanings included in conditioned and unconditioned, contaminated and uncontaminated; even if realizing a little, there will be no time when it will be exhausted, even in the realm of the skandhas without remainder, wisdom will not be exhausted, hence being constantly realizing at all times; in order to tame those to be tamed, showing what kind of manifestation, proclaiming what kind of dharma, etc., being able to fully realize the immeasurable means of taming, surpassing by these five qualities, therefore being called Bodhisattva, Bodhi (藏文:བོ་དྷི་,梵文天城体:बोध,梵文罗马拟音:bodhi,汉语字面意思:觉悟) means understanding, and Sattva (藏文:ས་ཏྭ་,梵文天城体:सत्त्व,梵文罗马拟音:sattva,汉语字面意思:有情) means possessing mind.

This praise of qualities that corresponds to the exact words of what is thought and understood is a general statement. Furthermore, there are four categories of understanding: mind, intellect, and consciousness. Among these three, mind refers to understanding or realizing that all places, objects, and bodily appearances arise from the all-encompassing alaya-vijnana (藏文:ཀུན་གཞིའི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་,梵文天城体:ālaya-vijñāna,梵文罗马拟音:ālaya-vijñāna,汉语字面意思:阿赖耶识), which contains all seeds. This is called 'understanding following the self.' The so-called 'self' has no other entity; it is merely the continuous moment-to-moment alaya-vijnana of one's own mindstream, which is fixated upon as 'self' by the afflicted mind looking inward. The so-called 'intellect' is the afflicted mind, which, focusing on the alaya, apprehends it as 'self,' possessing the five ever-present mental factors and the four: self-view, self-attachment, self-ignorance, and self-conceit. To truly understand the states of mind that are virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral, as well as the unobscured neutral that is ever-present, is called 'understanding subtle views.' Because the view of the aggregates as a real self is the cause of negative views and all afflictions, it is because of recognizing that subtle root of views. 'Understanding the various aspects of consciousness' means knowing the nature of the six consciousnesses, that is, the six from eye-consciousness to mind-consciousness, which arise from object, faculty, and attention, and which focus on the six objects such as forms, together with their accompanying mental factors, possessing the three: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral, and corresponding to various feelings. Knowing their nature is called 'understanding the various aspects of consciousness.' Thus, understanding all eight consciousnesses, although there is no duality of grasper and grasped, yet apprehending them as grasper and grasped, realizing that this non-true apprehension is merely the other-dependent nature, like illusion and dream, for these four reasons, one is called a Bodhisattva. This is the way of understanding conventional appearances. Separately understanding the non-conceptual wisdom, which is without object of focus like the sky, which worldly people have not previously understood, is understanding what has not been understood. Separately understanding that all phenomena are equal to illusion, etc., with the wisdom attained after realization, is understanding what is understood afterwards. Alternatively, what is not understood is the way of arising in accordance with ignorance, etc.
