It is shameful to completely fall away from diligence and become lazy. If Bodhisattvas have attained mastery over their minds in equanimity and immeasurable samadhi, yet remain amidst worldly affairs, their minds scattering and wandering towards external objects, that is shameful. Bodhisattvas are inherently endowed with wisdom and possess the wisdom to realize the two selflessnesses taught in the Mahayana Dharma. If they only have the narrow view of realizing the selflessness of the individual and have not separated from clinging to characteristics of phenomena, then they are filled with shame. Therefore, Bodhisattvas who do not enter other vehicles of Hearers and Solitary Realizers and are ashamed of practicing them are true Bodhisattvas. This is praise from the aspect of not desiring other vehicles. Thus, all the practice of the perfections is primarily for the benefit of others, and thus benefiting others. This is praise from the aspect of qualities: Through generosity, giving enjoyment to the needy, thus benefiting this life, and by gathering through generosity and so forth, placing them in discipline, thus benefiting the next world. Through patience, not disturbing one's mind, not retaliating, but treating them with equanimity, thus benefiting sentient beings. Through diligence or effort, helping others in their activities, thus benefiting others. Through meditation, gaining mastery over qualities such as clairvoyance, thus benefiting others. Through wisdom, teaching the five sciences, especially the inner science of all the Dharmas of the three vehicles, equally according to what each desires, thus benefiting others. Thus, by obtaining the great fruit of practicing the perfections, Buddhahood itself, benefiting sentient beings as long as space exists. Therefore, from the perspective of cause and effect, Bodhisattvas engage in benefiting all sentient beings. In the 'Commentary of the Intelligent,' it is held that this verse summarizes the meaning of the previous verses. Second, showing the categories of names of Bodhisattvas, these are also names that correspond to their meaning from the aspect of qualities, so they can also be classified as categories of qualities. Among them, the sixteen names such as Bodhisattva, which are common names for all Bodhisattvas, are as follows:

Declared. Understanding the nature of the two selflessnesses, Having single-minded faith in the profound object of knowledge is called a Bodhisattva. Or, because of the firm intention to achieve unsurpassed enlightenment, it is called a Bodhisattva. A great Bodhisattva is one who has dominion over great powers, such that even in a single pore of hair, he can show the kalpas of the arising and destruction of the three thousand great thousand world systems, and so on. Or, because one desires to attain unsurpassed enlightenment for oneself, one is called a Bodhisattva; and because one desires to liberate all sentient beings from the suffering of samsara and place them in nirvana, one is called a great Bodhisattva. Or, because one abides in samsara with great wisdom, yet is not defiled by the faults of samsara, from that aspect one is a Bodhisattva; and because one initiates endless diligence for the sake of sentient beings with great compassion, one is called a great Bodhisattva. Or, because one generates the mind to achieve unsurpassed enlightenment, one is called a Bodhisattva; and because one possesses the seven greatnesses mentioned above, one is called a great Bodhisattva. According to these methods, there is only a distinction by reversal, but both Bodhisattva and great Bodhisattva are general names for Bodhisattva, and there is no difference. Also, in relation to the grounds, the earlier ones are Bodhisattvas, and the later ones are great Bodhisattvas; generating the mind in the stage of aspiration is a Bodhisattva, those who have attained the noble grounds are great Bodhisattvas; the seven impure grounds are Bodhisattvas, and those who abide on the pure grounds are great Bodhisattvas. In any case, because one accomplishes the cause of unsurpassed enlightenment, practices the immeasurable perfections that are difficult to practice, and attains the unsurpassed enlightenment that is difficult to attain, and has no timidity, one is named Bodhisattva. Because one possesses a mind of profound and vast wisdom, one is called intelligent; because one explains the meaning of the profound, and spreads the light of the Dharma in the ten directions, one is called supreme light or supreme splendor. Because one continuously upholds the lineage of the Tathagatas and is born into the family of the Buddhas, one is called a son of the Buddhas. Because it is the cause of becoming a Buddha, it is called the basis of the Buddhas, and similarly, self and others.
